Idealistic ideology indeed. However, the meaning is true nonetheless. People's freedoms are being taken away despite the fact that they are meant to be guaranteed. I don't know about Aaron, but I must say that I'm inclined to agree with the motives behind Anonymous' movement, even if I disagree with the methods and tactics they employ. We are not Borg, and we will not be assimilated. Ultimately, I think Anonymous is acting as the voice of the People because the People have lost their voice and is trying to help them find it once more. It's a way to say, "Wake the heck up, everybody! You're no longer living in 'The Land of the Free!'"

Look at the options available for the average group of citizens to effect change. The White House has petitions that seem to be going nowhere, so what's the point of doing it in the first place? Members of the U.S. Congress and even the President of the United States are written countless letters, few of which actually cross their eyes in comparison, so that's not a good idea either. The only option left is a more direct course of action. This falls into two categories: violent action and nonviolent action. Nonviolence is being exercised here. Nobody is dying, and nobody is getting wounded in the slightest. I wonder when the violence will start?

By the way, freedom happens in nature, too. When animals are trapped, they'll do anything to get away. Around here, there's a well-known concept regarding the fact that a deer will gnaw off part of its own leg to get out of a trap. It values its life more than its leg, and the pain is negligible if it means they can survive. The Saw films thrived on that same concept: what will you do in order to survive (or will you give up and die)? While I doubt the films contained political subtext intentionally, the fact is that they can be interpreted in that way.

Overall, I think the idea driving Anonymous is good, and there has been very little damage as a direct result of their campaign. Morally speaking, what is being done is wrong, and two wrongs don't make a right. However, sometimes a bit of a wrong is required to make things right, I guess.

A horizontal tab was code 0x09, so when you press the tab key or use the "\t" escape in strings in a programming language, you're actually sending that control code. Of course, that's mostly ancient history now for most. Keyboard manufacturers, Assembly programmers and hardware driver creators come to mind as the few who might actually need to know such information...

    b) Most men are not CFOs.

    a) I doubt that's what the AC meant. It's more like the cultural expectation, which may only be present in a given smaller area or subculture rather than an entire large region, is what makes a guy spend more. He feels like he needs to. That's not the fault of men or women of today. It's just a lingering relic of an expectation. I, too, feel I should. After all, that's how a lady ought to be treated. That's what all of the old-school films and such seem to indicate anyway. In truth, I think it's down to the need to fuck myself. Men feel that desire to reproduce, which leads to wanting to make a female happy so that she'll sleep with him. It's a narrow-minded and extremely simplified view since human behavior is inherently complex, especially when medication and/or other drugs are added to the mix, but it's true nonetheless.
    b) I think that was the point. Most men are indeed not CFOs, which is why maternity leave was mentioned. I'm not sure if that's an insult or not, though.

The poster seems to have a bit of a bitter attitude when it comes to things like this that differentiate results based on the sex of a person. It's a logical division, but I wish it wasn't used. I think this is one reason why women aren't "equal" yet, though obviously the idea of equality is relative.

  12. Re:Alternatively on Male Scientists More Prone To Misconduct · · Score: 0

Actually, I think women do work much harder, but not at their profession as the statement would have you believe. Because of the "male dominated" area, women are more driven, I think--driven to succeed as well as driven to be more professional than their male peers. Women often mop the floor with men because guys can't keep their hormones in check usually. Sexy scientist babe? -stare- -stare- -STARE- (are you burning a hole through that top of hers yet?) We can't help how we are as guys. In a way, women are superior in this regard. Men are scared of scandal, and women can manipulate that to their advantage because they're often more cunning. I only say that because guys can't control their hormones, leading to less rational and logical thought processes. What it comes down to is the inherent male need to fuck, a natural act meant for reproduction that was vulgarized by women who didn't want to just be baby-makers through rape. This need is what causes prison rapes in male prisons. I'm not saying it doesn't happen in female prisons, but you don't hear about it nearly as much because it just doesn't happen as often.

With a financial risk like this, I'm sure there is some caution being exerted.

Sure, soda may be cheap to produce, but add packaging and distribution costs, which include the labor costs. Then you figure that with all of the expensive equipment and the movies themselves, a theater needs to make a decent profit to be able to handle everything, which is one reason why you have such overpriced snacks.

You may not even buy anything from the snack bar (a.k.a. "concession stand" here in the US, where you concede and buy things despite the fact that you can get the same items at less than 1/4 of the cost outside the theater). A theater still needs to make money, and tickets actually provide very little profit, if any at all. That's where all of the snacks come in. You can mark up the cost of a bag of popcorn or a paper cup* of fountain soda to help offset the costs, which allows for buying new equipment as well as maintaining current equipment.

    * "Cup" as used here is not 8 fluid ounces (8 fl. oz.) It is simply a vessel for a liquid as in "tea cup". One might say "glass", but to say that you have a paper or plastic glass is rather silly since a glass is made of glass, not paper glass or plastic glass, both of which are not materials that exist with which to make a cup.

Of course, certain things are free, such as 3D glasses to watch 3D films and refills on certain sizes of popcorn and specific sizes and kinds of beverage-type items (not fountain sodas).

You mentioned 36 square mile sections. Why isn't it 40? That would make more sense to me. You can't divide those 640 sq. mi. "squares" by 36 evenly, so it makes little sense. Use 40 or even 32! Converting 40 sq. mi. to metric yields approximately 100 km2 (103.6 actually), so that to me would be ideal. Or if 32 was used, you might use 80 km2 instead of the approximate 82.88 it is. And as for the individual 40 acre plots (~0.162 km2), cut it down to 0.15 km2 to make it approximately 37 acres.

Now apply that model to business. You could sell less land at the same cost. In other words, there is money to be made in the confusion. Let's be honest here. For that very reason it would temporarily benefit those who deal with land. Landscaping, selling actual pieces of land by the acre such as for a farm, etc. I'm no swindler, but I gotta say that from a business standpoint, bring on the metrication in your area!
