After almost 8 years at the same Human-Computer Interaction design firm, I (along with 6 other people) was laid off. And what did they give me for severence? They gave me a lousy $3500 in serverence, they threw a holiday party for the survivors and serverd day old left over Chinese food from the CEO's step-daughter's birthday party. Real class act.
the first time I heard that rant from Arlo was tapes of the Further Festival from '98 (I think, need to check on this). He was the M.C. and went into this rant and then into Alice's.... I could be wrong... the 90's were a little fuzzy...
There are few things in this world that are 18 minutes and 30 seconds long... the missing bits of the Nixon tapes and Alro Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant". Coincidence? I don't think so....
He couldn't design his way out of a wet paper bag. He caught peoples attention back in '97 with 'Frames are bad' and has been hustling his B$ to the masses ever since. He makes his bank on telling people how they should design interfaces instead of going out there and doing it.
I love hearing how DC is backpeddling to cover their asses. It's comical the way they think they can pull this off, I hope they keep trying for a good long time. Meanwhile I will sit back, laugh...
