I loved arachnophilia! (Before I became a free software zealot.)
One problem with it, though (beside from it being closed source [AFAIK] and for Windows which is evil) is that it does html 3.2 code and no css.
It's so very scriptable though, that that's not a problem. I hacked it slightly to produce html 4.0 code (this was way back, before xhtml) and it's a very nice program.
Well, yeah, because when people are used to perl and ed and emacs, they can switch with a minimum of fuss.
So basically I think it is a Good Thing - I installed FreeAmp for Windows once (hey...) and I really loved it's cool clickwrap-parody. It's really about exposing users to freedom, and showing them how ridiculous clickwrap prisons are.
My concern, however, is that if all free software was ported to (say) Windows, then users would go like: hey, what's the big deal, my windows comp can do that (run Gimp/perl/apache/whatever).
Though then, of course, we'll just quote Aesop and say: "You're welcome to your dainties, but I'll rather have a dry crust with freedom than all the luxuries a king with a chain can offer" (or something to that extent, I forget).
I think it's at http://heroine.linuxave.net/quicktime.html
Is it possible to make an open mpeg4 codec? There are some issues with mp3 audio (that's why vorbis exists) but mpeg4 video is okay?
I don't have a clue today (-night).
... Keeping Middle America Really Tacky?
(I think I saw that in Mad magazine.. 0 points for originality.)
If a store wants to choose their customers, it's up to them - but age discrimination is something else entirely.
"No shoes - no service"... I hate that...
Oh, well. As always, there are many sides of the story.
Including Microsoft, since obviously they are happier the more software runs on Windows.
It might harm the free software community quite a bit (by enhancing a non-free system), though it will also benefit it (more free software/exposing windows users to the concept of libre free software) and it will also give Troll Tech more revenue (through, as you say, the publicity).
Sunnanvind (just clarifying - I've got a wonderful talent for stating the obvious)
So what? I don't think Troll Tech would mind.
The way I understand it, there's a version of QT that's for only free software and one that's for proprietary programs.
The latter one is the only one currently available for windows (AFAIK), but companies will have to fork out the moolah for writing evil proprietary software regardless of platform, which, if I understand correctly, is exactly what Troll Tech intends.
It's kinda like Robin Hood - taking money (albeit legally) from evil (that is, proprietary) companies and giving some of that money to the community.
Please read the freshmeat editorial concerning the GPL-ing of QT.
There were issues with the license.
On a side note, I am so happy that this change is happening. I'd like to thank Troll Tech for listening to the other side of the story. You have truly shown yourselves to be the bigger persons.
Getting the "forgiveness" for the major packages should be a trivial part (though I'll admit that I really have no clue on the size of such an enterprise), or maybe that code can be replaced.
Is this a joke?
You *can* override the CSS in IE, you can even make your own style sheet and have all pages display using it. (Opera has the same feature, btw.)
I remember using a home mad CSS to lowercase a legal document that some schmuck judge had decided to make all uppercase.
I used lynx to view the craphound page, though, and didn't have any problem. (Lynx is my only working browser right now, being a free software zealot and amaya temporarily snafu..)
Anyway, as long as a page is written using strict xhtml or html 4, I don't mind what the creators design choises are, since it's all overridable.

Is UNIX An OS?

· Score: 1
Actually, he does use Solaris as an example to make his point - he claims that Solaris isn't unix, it is a distribution of software around Sun OS, which is built on Unix...
or whatever. Weird, non-the-less. I kind of agree - an OS is more the distribution of software than the kernel.
I thought Sawfish used Imlib too, is that just an urban myth? (See the poll at sawmill.themes.org)
Anyhow, I found that aewm is somewhat cool with gnome - it's not compliant at all (AFAIK), but nice non-the-less.
(Though I installed helix gnome two days ago and since sawfish hasn't crashed yet I have found no reason to change it [last time I tried it it was somewhat unstable, or maybe I'd just gotten a bad install, who knows.])
What? I don't know how it is with RPM, but for my Debian computer (or 'box', whatever, it's a notebook) I just had to add a line to/etc/apt/sources.list so I could get easily installable and upgradable software. This was well documented on helix's page.
Spoiled by Debian, I guess... YMMV.
Peace/Love,
Sunnanvind.

Cybernetic Artificial Replicant Normally for Infiltration and Vigilant Observation which is Really Evil. So there.
I thought it was the second post (hey, I read at a threshold at the time) and 2-1 == 1 so there.

Actually, wouldn't that make it the first post? Sunnanvind.
On a dvorak keyboard, N and S are next to each other. Never attribute to ignorance which can be attributed to typos.

Including that very commandment. Prosecutors will be transgressicuted.
