If we dumb it down to "There's an ickky virus going around which sill hurt your PC!" then it's no use to us geeks with a clue. Just leave the real explination and put "Install this to fix the problem" at the bottom of the page for the idiots.
Not at the bottom of the page but at the top. Most users wont read lots of meaningless (to them) text. Where as a technical person will becuase they know there might be somthing important there.
What about embedded HTML? Now, I am no fan of Microsoft and I promote Firefox to everyone I know, but you do need to embed HTML viewers in applications. A LOT of applications link with the gecko rendering component of mozilla or at the very least link to gtkhtml or khtml to allow embedding of HTML within applications.
Remember HTML is a markup language it is not just a for web pages so it used in many applications. There is no sense in reinventing the whell (and introducing new buggy code) so we embed html renderers in applications.
Beagle works by registering meta information in the extended attributes of filesystems. The beagle daemon searches all of your files and indexes their content. Applications can send "clue packets" to the beagle daemon using DBus. These "clue packets" allow beagle to better index the items being created/used/viewed in real time as well as allowing for some better relationships between items to be created.
The idea is to be able to find things that are relevant to you.
Current applications (that I know of) that integrate with beagle are Gaim, Evolution, Mozilla/Firefox/Epiphany and Liferea.
Its searches really do return good results from everything that it integrates with. For instance if I search for something it may return web sites, news feed, IM chats as well as files on my hard disk.
Windeows 2003 is really more or less Windows 2000 that has gone through a hardening and stripping process. This makes it more secure at the cost of functionality. Instead of everything being enabled by default it is disabled.

Rather than just saying X number of similar mails...
How about X number of similar mails that other users have marked as spam. This should allow for rules to be developed over time using human decission factors yet still allow sharing of these rules to allow a more "automated" spam filetering service.
The companies providing these encryption breaking challenges do not wish for someone to come up with some super quick method of breaking their products encryption scheme. Instead what they want is proven statistics that it takes X amount of time to crack their encryption scheme at rediculously low key lengths. This is so they can go around quoting their 1200 years and simillar to crack and sell more of their encryption product.
Please do not take this as me saying that these encryption systems are or are not any good - I am not a cryptographer. It is just that these competitions are obviously organised from a marketing perspective.
Via's system requires their hardware security implementations to work.
As the first step in working towards this objective, VIA was the first company in the world to introduce hardware-based security features in an x86 processor, as part of the VIA PadLock Hardware Security Suite, first with the implementation of the VIA PadLock RNG (Random Number Generator) in the initial Nehemiah core followed by the addition of a second RNG and the VIA PadLock ACE (Advanced Cryptography Engine) supporting AES encryption standards in the latest C5P Nehemiah core
From the description this is a sample application using their "Padlock" hardware
The VIA PadLock SL Utility is a sample secure messaging and information dissemination application with an advanced public key model and AES encryption for ultra-secure communication pathways between users.
I have a sony phone in the UK that uses a t9 dictionary. I tgets it right about 80% of the time which is not bad and you can select alternate words by using the scroll button. Its a bit of a pain when you have to teach it a new word but once it knows it you just type away...

The new hardware is not just random number generators but also the addition of hardware cryptography implemetations.

Well I live just on the outscirts of Edinburgh, Scotland and I have never seen any UFO's without the assistance of some shrooms ;-)
