The worms somehow moved across the desert by magic. [snip]
True enough. I thought the first worm was good, but I wasn't real impressed by the rest of them. Also, did you notice that they basically clawed their way up to the top of the worm, even when first getting on? What happened to the elegant way of just having the worm's motivations clear? It didn't want to get sand in the sensitive areas. I don't think the motivation in the series was clear at all. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that the worms might as well just submerge while they're riding..

Lots of gaps in the backstory. My wife (never read Dune) tried to watch and got lost. The motivations of the supporting roles were mostly omitted.
I'll agree with you there, to an extent. My fiance watched it with me, I had to use the commercial breaks for explanations. She still didn't really get it very well, too much was missing. However, even though they ommitted stuff I thought they could have included, I think they had to make a judgement call on things, perhaps sacrificing a small bit of clarity here, for more clarity, or less "wierdness" overall. i.e. designed for the general audience.

Paul says he's waiting for a great storm before he attacks, but then there is no storm during the attack scene.
Umm.. I'm afraid I have to disagree completely here. I saw a storm, and it wasn't out my own window. In fact, right after they blew the wall, the storm went in and took down their shields. They even express concern about "The shields won't be able to hold!" However, it didn't last long enough in my opinion. It basically came through the gap in the wall and dissipated almost immediately. Pretty sorry for a "Great grandmother of a storm!"

I just noticed, was there no background music in most scenes?
That was one thing I missed about the Lynch movie.. The score.. Lynch's film had an epic feel to it just because of the music. I would have enjoyed the series much more if it would have had the music that Lynch's film had.

Well, just my opinion. Like I said, I still enjoyed it, even though I ranted and raved about the inconsistencies to about everyone I know..

DID A HOT HUNK OF METEORITE CREAM HIS CAR? // STUNNED E. HEMPFIELD RESIDENT, COP SAY CELESTIAL ROCK MELTED DASHBOARD

It fell, apparently, from outer space -- and vaporized part of Robert Nelson's car.

The East Hempfield Township man, startled by a loud "thump" at 3 a.m. today, awoke later this morning to find a fist-size hole in the windshield of his 1980 Ford Fairmont.

The still-intact part of the glass around the hole had been melted. Whatever slammed into Nelson's car was lodged deep inside the dashboard, leaving the surrounding plastic and foam charred and melted.

    The interior smelled burnt.

A fine, grainy substance -- pulverized glass -- coated the seats and floor.

"The first impression I had when I walked up to the driver's door was that there was an animal in there, like a squirrel or something," Nelson laughed this morning.

    But it wasn't a squirrel.

Nelson and police believe it may have been a meteorite from the Leonids meteor shower -- an event caused when the Earth passed through the dust particles of a comet overnight.

In this case, the debris was from Comet Temple-Tuttle. The annual shower is called the Leonids because the meteors appear to radiate out of the constellation Leo.

When the Earth passes through this debris, the dust particles, or meteors, heat up and glow.

Fragments that hit Earth are called meteorites.

Traveling 45 miles per second, they can cause quite an impact.

Take a look at Nelson's car, which was parked in front of his house at 814 Hillaire Road when all this happened.

Just as the Leonids were making their appearance in the sky over Lancaster, a massive thud shook the Nelsons' house after 3 a.m. His wife, Camelia, heard it, and so did a neighbor.

"I thought it was an electrical transformer," Nelson said.

The couple went back to bed.

Shortly after 8 this morning, on the way to church, he walked to his car and noticed the hole in the windshield. He called police.

"It definitely wasn't a rock. It was not a shotgun blast. I don't know what it was," said a perplexed East Hempfield Township police officer, Bret Hollis, who responded to Nelson's call early this morning.

"Whatever hit it was extremely hot and it was traveling extremely fast," Hollis said. "It melted the glass surrounding the hole."

"I've seen rocks thrown through windows, and this wasn't a rock," the officer said.

The first clue it wasn't a rock or shotgun: "The trajectory was from straight up. The guy would have to have been standing on top of the hood, shooting into the windshield," Nelson said.

And Hollis checked for footprints on the hood. There were none.

"It came from the sky," Hollis determined.

Say it's a meteorite. Now what?

Nelson is left with an old car that has 212,000 miles on it and a hunk of comet dust inside it. What to do?

Nelson will try to get it fixed.

"It's one of those cars that won't die," he said, "unless a meteorite hits it."

In all that I've seen Pioneer do, they've always been very considerate. Much more so than most of the companies that release Anime over here. I have full confidence that Pioneer will be releasing a high-quality DVD with Japanese and English tracks. Of course, I think I read something about them re-dubbing it, and I've always seen good dub jobs when it comes from them.

I'm not worried about Pioneer putting out a good version. I have a feeling that their job won't be quite as cheesy as the previous company.

When I first went to school, I had my first experience with a network. I started working in the computer labs and decided to check out the network. We were running a Novell network on DOS systems. I had no idea whatsoever what anything was, but I did what I viewed to be the most efficient way to find out what a program does. I ran everything (on a lab machine, of course). I was not able to do anything important, but I learned a lot about the capabilities of the network. About 10 minutes after I had finished, the head of the Tech Services department came into the lab and asked if I was . He told me I shouldn't be playing with the programs. I told him I thought they were okay (they were in a "public" directory! :-)

2 years later, after working with each person in the department and showing them I knew what I was doing and was trustworthy (or so I thought), I was turned down a technical job for the reason that I was a "security risk." Or too dangerous or something.. Umm.. Right..

My point, if you're still with my rambling, is that something may be counted as "hacking" even if it doesn't make any sense to anyone who knows a flip about computers. So chances are, everyone here has a "hacking" record of some sort..

Please correct me if I'm off base, but what happened was that their artists were inspired by Mickey Mouse (and other American characters). They already had distinctive styles, but they took some things from our characters. Apparently they found some of the details to be effective in portraying the idea correctly.
