Do these "greatful 3rd world workers" sit there all day because they want to, or because they can't afford not to?

Have you been to a sweat shop? I saw where Wilson makes baseballs in Haiti, all hand sewn. Try doing that for 10 hours a day 7 days a week for minimal pay. Even if it is the going rate for that country. Can't Wilson/Nike/any company afford to pay their employees? Sure they can, but why, when they "need" a new Beemer to fill the 4th garage?

Why are we Americans so sure that everyone else would be so greatful to be like us, isn't that a bit presumptuous? Why don't we climb down off our high horse and actually do something, instead of make excuses for the way things are.

How greatful would you be if you were begging and recived a "gift"?

    Would you be greatful?

Or would you be ashamed to be in the position you were in?

Hmmm, think about that for a bit.

I don't give a damn about what I consider an inferior species if it has no effect on me.
The air you breath has no effect on you? What pray tell takes the Co2 from the air combines it with H2o to give O2? um, yeah, that would be plants, algae (which give coral their color), and um, not your living and enjoying yourself. You cant live too long in a Co2 rich environment. The Co2 displaces the O2 ya need to "live."

So don't go knocking the kingdom Plantae buddy!

  13. Re:Sounds like a good plan but.. on Bacteria to Destroy Greenhouse Gases · · Score: 1

Plants have been doing this for millenia. Algae in the sea have been doing this for eons. Personally I dont think we need any "new" species doing what can be done already. If we focus on using what we already have wisely, we should have no reason to "create" new/better ones.

I think it is very haughty of us to presume that we know what is better for the world. Why don't we develop ways to better take advantage of those species already present? Estuaries and coral reefs are some of the most productive biological systems on the planet, and also two of the most fragile. The amount of carbon fixed by those sytems rivals the other sytems combined (including rainforests). But we as humans don't care much for them. We instead try to come up with systems suited to our needs when we should be figuring out how to protect the systems we already have.

  14. Loss of freedom? on U.S. Supreme Court Issues Election Ruling · · Score: 1

now kill me if im wrong, but wasnt the bush campaign running with the motto "vote freedom first" or something along that line? I was under the impression that elections were a state's buisness. Shouldnt it stop at the state level? I guess florida should succeed from the Union and take it all the way if they want all their votes counted. Another thing this election has shown us is how elected officials in lower offices (secretary of state, county prosecutors, circut court judges) will follow their party lines. Some of them are not supposed to be biased in their decisions, but their party favors (pun intended) show what side of the bed they sleep on. for a good time call http://www.megatokyo.com/
