While this has not be challenged in court, and it would be a tough battle. According to the letter of the law, Microsoft can not challenge copyright infringement on any of their products included in the antitrust case, since it used its copyright for antitrust purposes.
I bet the framers of the US Constitution are rolling in their graves. The patent system was developed so that someone who invented something could sell the product without fear of having their idea stolen.
Now we have these companies who don't invent anything buying the patents and leeching money from people who actually build things.
That's so lame.
Perhaps there should be a law prohibiting the trasfer of patents. You can license technology, but you can't sell a patent outright.
"This logo may be used on discs complying with the CD-DA specification: IEC 60908 and/or the Phillips-Sony Compact Disc Digital Audio System Description (also known as the RED Book)"
Players have similar restrictions. So if the disc dosen't play on your "Compact Disc" labeled device and it is labeled "Compact Disc" one of them is lying, or the spec is too loose.
A friend of mine told me a story about going to Europe and having to explain to a clerk that his credit card didn't have a smart chip in it, she would have to slide it in the other thingie. He ended up having to slide the card for her.
MS is famous for stealing technology. Mac technology, Stac technology, BSD technology (their TCP/IP stack is bug for bug identical to BSD), Spyglass technology (hmm... or did they buy that?). What pisses them off is they CAN'T STEAL OSS. If they try, there are a whole bevvy of IP lawyers ready to kill them.
This is more proof that the DCMA is unconsititutional. It has chilled highly valuable speech. Hopefully the EFF will see this and seek an injuctiontion against enforcement and get the "fair use" aspect clarified.
IANAL!

This would not cover XP.
Yea, that is cool, but you know what taht will evolve into...
"You must stare at this ad for 20 seconds before we will show you the content you requested. Don't look away... We will know..."
Which congressmembers seem to be the most tech savvy, specifically, which ones are better at understanding complex technical issues?
It seems to me that individual citizens who would like to see new tech legislation would be better served to contact a tech savvy congressmember.

It burns clean as long as you have a clean source of hydrogen... There's the rub.
I heard talk of the new Fuel Cell cars still releasing CO due to the need for a speedy source of Hydrogen.
These guys just make the fuel cell, not the hydrogen source, so they shrug and say, "Not my problem..."
The Compact Disc logo is owned by Phillips.

The right to use the logo is as follows:
"This logo may be used on discs complying with the CD-DA specification: IEC 60908 and/or the Phillips-Sony Compact Disc Digital Audio System Description (also known as the RED Book)"
Players have similar restrictions. So if the disc dosen't play on your "Compact Disc" labeled device and it is labeled "Compact Disc" one of them is lying, or the spec is too loose.

I am looking up the rules now...
Good point. Here is a question... Do they lose the ability to have the "Compact Disc" logo on thier case?
A friend of mine told me a story about going to Europe and having to explain to a clerk that his credit card didn't have a smart chip in it, she would have to slide it in the other thingie. He ended up having to slide the card for her.
For some things, the US is way behind.
I wanted to hear about roll your own DSL, I don't use that plugin crap anyway.
Has he been arrested yet? I am sure some people are sending coypwrited material via 802.11...
7 days! It only took 7 days from his arrest for the community to get the complaining party to back down.
This should get the "powers-that-be" thinking...
The downside is that instead of having 19 people using 19 DSL lines at 5% capacity, the Telcos will 19 users of ONE DSL line at 95% capacity.
Which senario makes the TELCO more money?
Sounds like a catapult.
Haardly a technical journal...
Anyone have anything from a better source?
I use it always:
/dev/null | uuencode -m /dev/stdout | grep -v begin-base64 | dd bs=1 count=8 2> /dev/null
dd if=/dev/urandom bs=1 count=8 2>
I am sure there are a million ways to do this better, but this is the way to do it that occured to me at the time I wrote the script.
As you can see, my english is as verbose and cryptic as my shell scripting.
Only installable if you agree to the click though banner saying...
"If I represent the MPAA in any legal capacity, I shall now be required to distribute the source for CSS and all keys under the BSD license."
Otherwise... CSS encoded.
The CIA is an agency of the NSA. That is, unless you believe that NSA = No Such Agency.
Let's hope this is more than just an exercise in straining credulity...
Well, it isn't straining credulity, I read it on Slashdot so it HAS to be true!
It would be a nice feature if Bruce could set up a system so that we could all sign our names.

I like the fact that there is a "check Prices" link next to the article. Too bad it dosen't work. That would be sweet... $0.00.
I love to use the cardboard models... It would give me that, "I'm a cheap bastard" look is strive for.
I keep trying to get my brain to make the fork() system call, but, so far... no luck.
