In the US some of the worst effects from child "molestation" are on kids who never experienced the real thing, but have been subjected to authority figures urging them to "tell the truth." Ultimately many of these kids find themselves creating bizaar fabrications to please their inquisitors.
This also applies to adults, it's just that children are less resistant. This method of questioning is very similar to torture.
If you don't see in color simply because of money (and not because of a fundamental understanding that everyone is basically the same), then we are truly in a sad state.
You are only able to make this kind of statement because you feel (relatively) secure and safe. Virtue is not something that is absolute, free from the context of the environment one is placed in.
Who buys Windows from the store? A copy is sold, automatically, with almost every PC ever shipped.
If you build your own PC, and decide to get a legitimate license of Windows for it.
Personally, I felt the money was well spent. For my usage, Win2k has been rock-solid. The only problem I had was installing my miroVIDEO DC30 plus (even that wasn't too bad, once a helpful user posted the trick). I'm not a big PC gamer, though...
Beyond that, Matloff's claims about shortages, wages, "indentured servitude", and working conditions simply don't agree with what I have seen in
real life. But it isn't even worth disproving his factual claims point-by-point when his basic reasoning is so faulty.
I've seen many examples of contract houses exploiting the individuals in the process for their green card. Apparently, these people are more or less locked in with your employer when you start the process. If you change employers you go through a lot of hassle and have to start over. Maybe it's more complex than that, but it seems that these people are not as free to look elsewhere for a job like your average citizen who get's shafted by their employer.
Good grief, I hope not. Can you imagine the licensing fees based on palm usage? After ten uses of your palm you would have to contact Redmond for permission for additional use. I for one want to retain the right to use my palm any number of times and at any time of day without the approval of some corporate racketeer.
Limitations on the use of our palms? With the amount of p0rn I view, that might bankrupt me!
Unfortunately, it looks like the IEEE 1394 link only works with the MiniDV deck side. It doesn't look like it will send live video out with that digital link. Here is the link to the product info.
Sony does have a media converter for this purpose. It's listed at $499.95
You know, I can't imagine installing linux with floppies anymore... I know that I did this... I just can't imagine doing it ever again... (I do remember vividly a fit of rage when I realized that one of my disks developed some error)
sorry to diverge a little, but man it's hard to believe that anyone would do any revival effort like this. Shouldn't we be nailing the coffin on floppies shut? Even my friggin case has a dedicated floppy bay... which sucks. I have to get a floppy drive to plug the hole up...:)
And to think we used to backup their hard drives with these things!
*Sigh* I guess I apologize again, this was an aimless, unfocused rant...
Another part of the age factor is stability. True or not, older people are perceived to be more stable, especially once they have their own family. Maybe if more middle aged men go postal, this stereotype will fade...
I think this sort of ties in with the saying, "Thinking digital rots the brain.":)
I think that you might consider the whole HDL scene similar (though not at all the same) to code "generation" tools. I've seen several tools which generate code, but you could never use what it generates directly. It was either very suboptimal or sub-correct:) or both, and that means that software expertise is necessary to get meaningful results from the process.
Perhaps as the state of the art progresses, these tools will become smart enough to be "trusted" like a compiler, so engineers can focus on other things. Although this is a danger, too. We might just have to focus on good designs, or (*gasp*) sane process methods.
The consequences of direct neural tapping are mind blowing, and in more than one sense. One question is that when everyone has their brains
wired up to this tech and to the internet, everyone becomes educationally equal, and everyone can learn new skills very quickly. This
technology is a step in the direction of a classless society.
I think it wouldn't remove classes at all. When access to information and education become equal, that simply means that there will be some other classifier. The levels of ability will still be stratified. Genetics, upbringing, or other factors may classify you more intensely than they did before.
Microsoft has already proven that they can't be trusted. If they made cars the way they do software, thousands would be dying daily, and they would be able to keep the defect information copyrighted and proprietary.
To be fair, is Microsoft is building its Windows for safety critical use? I don't know about CE, but I don't think their OSes are designed for that. Kinda seems like comparing apples to oranges...
Not that I believe an OS should be riddled with spurious "features"....
The work is certainly dated, but it remains at the top of my favorites.
It has a very interesting soundtrack and an interesting story. (although the movie gets cryptic at times, because it is compressing a gigantic comic book series into one movie)
I recommend people try it. (although I wonder if I'm preaching to the choir)
Another film based on Katsuhiro Otomo's work is Memories. That is my absolute favorite animation!
Unfortunately no one has picked the title up in the US (to my knowledge). So the only option is to pick up a fan-sub.
Take my opinions with a grain of salt... I still prefer SS3 or SFA2 to all of those fancy 3-d fighting games...:)
So blowing up my GI Joe figures classify me as a violent child too? As much as I would have resented the label, just about all my "action-figures" were dolls of a fashion.
Or how about those green plastic army dudes? Do we now have multiple generations of violent war-mongers?

What about all those freaks with the oversized palm protectors? They take a slim Palm and make it into a some ugly metal box...
Surely they would dig this!
We might even be able to get some name brand behind it. Imagine! A genuine Leatherman Palmtop!
It's the same crap in a smaller package.
Speaking of which...
At iBUYPOWER.com, they have a 933 MHz option for this system! I am skeptical that such a box can keep itself cool...

Luckily this guy only had one computer... I wonder how creative they could get with their suspicion if he had several in a network?
We've been using journals, diaries, address books, watches, etc... for some time now, don't you think?
Maybe we've been stupid for a long time... :)

Such an irresponsible write-up leads to even more misinformation and bad rumors.
This is a set-top box. It is not a console.
Click here for a Daily Radar article on Sega's plans, and here for an article about their set-top plans specifically.
We see the Death Spiral in the software life cycle... :)

*show a cut-away of the brain, Fist of the North Star style*
"You're already dead..."
The plot makes more sense if you read some of the comic books... but then they aren't for sale anymore either...

I agree.
And it clearly runs slower on my machine. There is no reason for me to use it.
Yep, you win...
I'm totally green with envy.
Was this truly violent content?

Hmm, Maybe...
This thing is so ugly, your mother would disown you for carrying it...
It seems like an iBook-like style targeted at someone who's so dull, that he/she wouldn't care what the thing looks like...
Maybe you just gotta be Japanese to understand?
Nope, not anymore... OO is outdated, now that we've abandoned all hope of software correctness. After all, why be incorrect slowly? :)
