you know, if mozilla is so bloated why does it work so well on my system. Another note is how does it really hurt mozilla. I mean, look at IE. Talk about bloated

Define "bloated". IE6SP1 is a 470KB stub installer that will download up to 25MB depending on what you choose to install, with about 11MB being typical. The Mozilla 1.2.1 installer and/or ZIP Win32 download is about 12MB with no option to use a stub installer. I'd say they're about the same (without comparing bundled additional applications). The Win32 Phoenix binary ZIP is about half that (6MB).

Or are you confusing speed with bloat? IE loads damn near instantaneously while Mozilla 1.2 takes about 7-8 seconds to load (with subsequent loads being faster of course). Once loaded rendering speed is, IMO, the same for both of them.

    So, define "bloated".

Welcome to Slashdot. A few pointers:

    • When referring to The Evil Empire, please use '$' instead of 's'. This holds true even if your currency symbol happens to be different as we are USA centric here.
    • When using operator overloading to make a point, please use C syntax, as C is the language of the 1337 h^x0r. The statement above is assigning bad to Micro[$]oft instead of testing for equality. Thus, the syntax should be Micro[$]oft == bad!. In most cases, syntactical errors like these will get you tagged as a BASIC programmer, which is a Bad Thing (TM)
    • When using more than one exclamation sign at the end of a sentence related to Micro[$]oft, please use the normative money!!1! syntax by inserting a gratuitous 1 (one) character.
Other than that, please feel free to explore the site. Check out the journal features and keep that karma ticker open at all times.

    Thanks!

  10. Editorial responsibility on Discuss BIOS and Palladium Issues With an AMIBIOS Rep · · Score: 2
This is the text of the original article submission:

An anonymous reader writes "American Megatrends announced its 'trusted computing' Palladium BIOS on Jan 6. It seems that the encrypted BIOS' integrity will be verified by a special chip or flash ROM, and will in turn verify the 'authenticity, integrity and privacy' of the boot loader and the operating system. Does that mean such machines may refuse to boot any other non-'trusted' OS? After all, the list of supporting corporations include AMD, Intel, IBM, and HP, of whom we heard quite favourable statements about Linux (just for example -- *BSDs will be equally affected) so far."

Perhaps this should have been posted in the Ask Slashdot section instead of News. Or maybe it's time to create a new section: Unsubstantiated And Potentially False Rumors That Might Damage Reputations Of Companies And Individuals.

Oh, and don't forget to browse the article with a +5 threshold. Let's hear it for informed, focused opinion floating to the top of the pile.

A bit more editorial responsibility would have been called for here because this sort of thing is essentially libel, not to mention pure and simple FUD. Now AMI has to subject itself to a Slashdot interview so that the record can be set straight. Does anyone else find this slightly troubling?
