    that was my exact first thought. first the airport, then the ipod, and now this.
    granted, 137GB is a lot of space, but give me a weekend with my girlfriend in bed^H^H^H^H^H^H^H at the lake, and i could fill that up in a relatively short time.

    most mac users are creative by trade in some way or another, and those folks seem to find creative ways to use drive space.

    on the other side of the market, the fact that there ARE competitors is a huge benefit in a case like this. chances are the others guys stuff doesnt have the same issue, and if it does, thats that many more orginizations rushing to fix it to be first on the market.

    people buy macs because they believe they are superior, and stuff like this makes it much harder to believe.

    Actually, its just a really easy country to make fun of. We dont have anything against france exactly, but laughing at the french make it easier for us to put up with some of the things that happen everyday here. Besides, you dont even have to leave the US before you start hearing anti-american jokes, but the difference is that they are often serious.

    ...and still are. I was recently switched to ATT Broadband and service just keeps getting worse.

    The firewalls obviously have to do filtering based upon a dictionary. Words are defined on the firewall, the traffic is read, and if it contains any of the offending words, its blocked, and logged, for the sysadmin to review at his liesure.

    I doubt that "Viagracreme" and "Lose Weight Fast" etc are of any concern to the Chinese government, therefore, not blocked.

    Now, on the other hand, I could see them blocking "steganographic".

    Probably, but that just strengthens my point that a lot of the times, these guys are full of sh!t. And that you shouldnt take their word like the gospel.

    So what if an Athlon or a Pentium blows up if you run it without a HSF? Why in the hell would you do that?

    Mistakes happen, but thats what a warranty is for...

    The way I see it, there has GOT to be a way to modify a couple of those AWACS for wireless internet service. Maybe the military could use it to ensure connectivity if/when ground troops are deployed in Afghanistan. That terrain has to present some problems that can only be solved by overhead waves.

    I have done quite a bit of house-call computer support in my time. Not once have I ever heard someone say "Ya know, I would love to try out the latest slackware release, but I need to check my email." How many of AOLs 24 Million users do you think can figure out how to make their PCs boot from a cd let alone install an operating system? Many users these days arent even really able to figure out the whole Start button thing, and cant run anything on the computer if it doesnt have an icon on the Desktop. You think a "fair number" of users would try it out?

    Why must the US Gov stick its nose into any and everything? Do you think it will ever strike them that they do not own and cannot control the Internet? They can pass all the laws they want, maybe even laws banning certain goods to be sold online, but it wont stop it from happening.

    The fact is, most computer experts dislike the Government, for whatever reason(crypto restrictions, privacy violations, etc...). The government therefore cannot get a highly skilled staff of computer experts to work for them. So in a nutshell, they will not be able to regulate the internet. Why cant someone think forward and realize that you cannot regulate the internet. There are too many variables, too many people, too much data.

    Id bet the only agency thinking forward is the NSA. And we all thought that Echelon was bad... I wonder whats next...

    There are obviously a ton of badly under/mis-informed people out there, and thats the only explanation that I have for AOL's HUGE (24 million or so, correct?) user base.

    I think it can be safely assumed that a full 90% of those users, dont have the slightest technical ability. Now, my question is, how much is it really going to hurt us, when the clueless will get clueless-er and the smart get smarter. Anyone worth thier marbles will by deafult, scrutinize any news that comes from them. Look at all the scrutinizing that goes on here at Slashdot.

    If you have a brain, this wont affect you.

    On the other hand though, I can see it completely ruining the economy, but I think you cant kill something that is already dead.

    Listen here, forget this "higher security standards (C3 or higher) than the typical desktop workstation" stuff.

    If you want to elect MY president via electronics, you had better come up with a whole new class of security for this here election system. There is just no bulletproof way of doing it, and while current procedures are not bulletproof by any means, it is a lot harder to change 1000000 votes if each one is a piece of paper.

    This is just a wake up call for us to pay more attention next time around(If we make it through the next 4). The more the people are involved, the more likely WE are to get who we actually want.

    I live in Texas, W doesnt take care of shit. The air quality blows, roads suck, and water literally smells awful. This joker is going to run the US. I always said that I would have voted for quayle if he ran, just because he was too stupid to do any real harm, but come on.

    If there is one single thing that I have learned about security is this... There is none.

    If you want it safe, you dont want an electronic method like that. The more people involved, the more it (at least appears to) lessens the chance of seriously tainted results.

    They shouldnt object to an open audit of the code, seeing how there isnt this huge demand for US Election Wizard 2.0, and they wouldnt have to worry about competitors.

    I can honestly say that if I was involved in the project, and had access to the data in anyway, I would at the very least consider the idea of fixing the results.

    How would they go about punishing/sentencing someone that tampered with these voting boxes?

    Would it be another Mitnick-type deal where they just lock you up right away and deal with you later?

    There WILL be a flaw. It WILL be uncovered. It WILL be exploited, maybe numerous times. I WILL laugh.

    That is, of course, only if it happens.

    How else can you explain their servers power consumption! You dont see Sun buying stock in Transmeta do you? Hell no, because they want you to use/buy all the power you can, and they want to own that power!

    I seem to remember that as well, but I think they were brownouts where I live, about 20 minutes outside of baltimore. I just remember being about 14, and pissed because our lights had enough power to come on but I couldnt boot my machine and get on to the InfiNetwork BBS.

    Assuming, of course, that I know what Im talking about.

    hmmmm... yes I do :) if you DIDNT want a sub if you mainly listen to music, how would you explain subs in cars. I cant imagine not having a sub to reproduce drum beats and the such. You are completely leaving out 1/3rd of your audio by NOT using a sub. If you want your music to sound as the artist intended, run, dont walk, to your nearest car stereo specialty shop and buy a sub. Dont go to Circuit City, Best Buy, any of those joints. The only reason that the guys working car audio have jobs at Best Buy is because they werent good enough for the specialty shops.
