Someone should point out that the Mac was running on 2 CPUS not 1 like the Athlon 64 and Athlon FX. Even so, both CPUs still trounced it in most of the tests. Does it matter if AthlonFX is different from Athlon 64? Both are desktop CPUs.
My 286 9Mhz CPU is also a GREAT CPU. Its good for my musium of computer history. Unfortunately it is not GREAT where speed is concern. So lets stick to speed when the article is talking about speed alright!
When will it be released as a separate module. Galeon/Epiphany/Gnome users are waiting for the Gecko Runtime Environment. Currently one needs to install both mozilla and Galeon to use Galeon.
A friend of mine is a writer, he has a Dox 4.x box with WordPerfect 5.1. I think it is 12 Mhz. The lack of a screen saver has caused the 14" B&W screen to display the WordPerfect 5.1 menu even when the thing is off.
Sorry You missed the point. Where does it say revocable there? It says SCO can prevent violation by IBM. It doesn't say by revocation. There are lots of ways to prevent violation other than by revocation.
You guys are playing into SCO's game here!!!!! Be careful what you say.
- Of all new Win2003 servers, 5% used to run Linux. - Of all new Linux servers, __% used to run Windows.
- There has been a __% increase in Windows Servers. - There has been a __% increase in Linux Servers.
Fill in the blanks to get a complete picture of what is happening. I bet you will find that more than 5% of new Linux servers used to run Windows and that Linux is growing while Windows is declining.
Don't touch SCOX with a six foot pole! It is dangerous ground for investors. There is alot going on behind the scenes.
Just before the up-shoot, there were suddenly a lot of stocks available for shorting when there hadn't been for a long time. Just at the time when they know a lot of people are going to short SCOX, the make stocks available for shorting and then the price goes up.
And now that it is up again, there aren't any stocks available for shorting.
SCO claims that they did not knowingly distribute their IP under the GPL so they are not bound by it?
Now check these links from SCO's own website:
SCO releases OpenLinux 4 for Itanium Date April 15,2003, 1 month after filing the suit against IBM. SCO releases OpenLinux 4.0 for Itanium. Remember what SCO's amended complaint states as their claims (NUMA,RCU,SMP,JFS).
Product Features The product features of OpenLinux Server for itanium, released on April 14,2003, advertise JFS,SMP as enterprise features of the new version.
"Journaling file systems add a higher level of reliability and
faster recovery time. JFS, ReiserFS, XFS and Ext3 journaling
file systems are included with SCO Linux Server."
Core Technology whitepaper for OpenLinux 4.0 32bit This document is the core technology white-paper for SCO Linux 4 32-bit version released in December 2002. Under features for business on the second page, the document advertises NUMA,O(1) scheduler, SMP, JFS as enterprise features for business for OpenLinux 4.0
"Linux 2.4.19 Kernel The core of SCO Linux Server 4.0 is the
2.4.19 Linux kernel. New features include broadened USB
support, Logical Volume Manager, improved journaling file
system support, POSIX-ACLS, new O(1) scheduler (improves
SMP support), Asynchronous I/O, Enterprise Volume
Management System (EVMS), PCI Hot Plug Support on
supported hardware, NUMA support, and many other
performance enhancing capabilities."
"Journaling File System Journaling file systems add a higher
level of reliability and faster recovery time. JFS, ReiserFS,
XFS and Ext3 journaling file systems are included with SCO Linux
Server. Each of these file systems has been tested and optimized
for the best performance and stability."
Thus even if NUMA,RCU,SMP,JFS are derivative works of SysV ( a long shot) they are now legally GPL'ed. IANAL but their lawyers may have realized this and that is why they are trying to fight against the GPL. That is their only chance (no matter how slim) of winning anything in this saga.
Rather, SCO(7-eleven) says their property is in hamburger. They are suing McDonalds (IBM) but don't want to show it because McDonald's would just replace it. So 7-eleven have stopped selling their own burger, and are asking everyone that has bought a hamburger to pay extra for their property that is in it but refuse to identify what they are talking about from the rest of the ingredients (bread,meat,cheese,lettuce,majonais,...). Additionally, they have sent a letter threatening all the major hamburger eaters, claiming that they will be sued if they don't pay extra. They also make statements in the press that all the hamburgers being sold contain stollen property, and that consumers are safer eating from 7-eleven restaurants. Burger king (RedHat) has sued 7-eleven for libel and unfair competition, asking that they reveal what they are talking about. McDonalds has done the same but added that 7-eleven is violating its patents on the ingredients of all the major meals it its restaurants.
Summary:
- 7-eleven does not want the contested ingredient removed because that is the only way it can make money out of it.
- 7-eleven does not want McDonalds or Burger King to be able to do hamburger business again otherwise they would have been more forthcoming
What do you suggest is the motive for knowingly stealing your code and then donating it back to you in an opensource project where you could easily find the infringing code if you looked?
If you have exercised negligence in protecting your code by not checking what you distribute to be sure that it does not contain what you want to keep secret, should the user who receives the package be liable?
If you take nude pictures of yourself and don't care to check that they are not among the pictures you are sending to the tabloid newspaper. Who do you blame if you find a newspaper with your *ss on the front page? Do you blame the publisher, the user, your girlfriend who caused the mixup out of ignorance, or yourself?
Now this is all common sense, the GPL does not come into it yet. But when it does, it says if you cannot satisfy its conditions, then don't distribute. You must accept it to distribute, which means you must be sure of what you distributing to do so. You can't claim later that you did not know because that is negligence and no judge will smile with you on that.
... and then they said the infringing code was not in the kernel but in the periphery.. no wait... there is infringing code everywhere in the kernel, that one is a no-brainer. Then they decided that IBM had stollen their copyrighted code and given it to Linux.. no wait... it is not about copyright.., but wait... they cannot reveal the code because it will be taken out.. no wait... there is so much code that linux will be nothing if it is taken out and besides its about trade secrets and not copyright.. but wait we'll sue Linux users for copyright anyway.
Why peole who have never done a sizeable efficient application in Java/Python like complaining about C/C++ and comparing it to Java/Python is beyond me. You cannot have a toolbox with only one tool. Every tool has its purpose. Suggesting that C/C++ is only appropriate for system software is naive. What language is Java/Python etc written in, C/C++ undoubtably.
Did Apple rip the gnome logo for panther or what?

Isn't Lineo a spin-off from SCO?

Did you mean mormon?
This number is deliberately misleading.

This would be one geek comedy movie to watch!

Yesterday, I had to make a choice between buying a ThinkPad or an equally spec'ed HP notebook.
Guess what choice I made. My cortex is HP tarnished at the moment.

Correction - Caldera did not purchase SCO, they bought the Unix business from SCO which then changed its name to Tarantella.
SCO is Caldera!!!

Talk about good faith... hah!
Time is not quantized
Can you understand change as a concept without using the concept of time?
I wonder what McBride thinks of all this.
