    Funny you mention the Swiss.

    They keep automatic rifles in their closets, and somehow refrain from murdering each other. Guns aren't the problem.

    Gun crime and murder are pretty low. Hooliganism and burglary are pretty high.

    Anybody who comes into my house unannounced at night is asking to be challenged by an armed homeowner. I'm not going to ask them politely to leave. I'm going to demand their surrender and they'll leave in chains with the police, or feet first in an ambulance.

    It's a question of personal responsibility. I am responsible for my own safety. In order to discharge that responsibility, I need to be able to enforce it.

    If you don't trust your neighbor with a gun, why do you trust them with a vote? If you don't trust them with a vote, I don't really have much to say to you...

    They also thought that representative democracy was a good idea. Is that as outdated as slavery?

    Make an argument, not a straw man. Why should I trust the defense of my life, my liberty, and my property to anybody but myself?

    Yeah. While you're at it, ask the Viet Cong how successful they were against the American army with nothing more than small arms. Hint: The answer is "Very."

    The Constitution says that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. It doesn't say small arms. It doesn't say rifles and pistols. I happen to believe the restrictions on all military weapons are unconstitutional, but I've got pretty radical ideas on the subject.

    Argue the point, then. You suppose that our forefathers are wrong. I say that an armed, educated populace is the only reliable defence against a tyrannical government. (We don't yet have a tyrannical government, but we're sure headed in that direction at an uncomfortable speed.)

    Gun rights have nothing, repeat: NOTHING to do with sportsmanship. This is POLITICS.

    Simple. There's a GPS record that says you were in a Bad Place. That's probable cause.

    Heck, if they plant a GPS, why don't they just plant some weed on you?

    Answer: Because they want to do it a whole lot, and GPS is cheap. This is not OK.

    Making it only POSSIBLE to run three apps at once does nothing to make Windows easier to learn. To suppose that people in third world countries aren't smart enough to use more than three apps at once is pretty bigoted.

    Microsoft is deliberately hamstringing the software, so that they can cry to the regulatory agencies "Look! We shipped this supercheap version of WIndows, and those sneaky pirates are STILL stealing our software!"

    Anyhow, Windows is going to go ahead and install its own possible issues automatically from the Internet.

    Easier != better. Do a google search on Gorilla Arm Syndrome. That's why touchscreens aren't a good idea for day-to-day use. Tablets would have less of an issue, but they're expensive.

    I wasn't assuming anything about your sig. I saw that you were trying to be funny, and I think that's great. Keep workin' on it.

    When you get your Mac, you'll note the presence of USB ports on the back. You'll also note that the mouse is not welded into that USB port. You'll further note that it's difficult to find a USB mouse that won't work. : )

    You're laboring under the misapprehension that they CARE about modern, standards-compliant browsers that aren't full of security holes.

    They don't have to care. They write the standard. That's what you get to do when you own the market.

    The question is: Which platforms require the least help for newbies? It's not Linux.

    I love how Windows has, in so many cases, been designed to be the opposite of the Mac defaults.

    Which also means that it's often the opposite of "usable" and "well designed".

    When I boot my XP PC, I have about 30 entries in the Processes tab. I think you must mean the Applications tab, which would make more sense anyway.

    I think it was shortsighted not to include a pony. I like ponies.

    Dude...we're talking about the cheapest Mac evar. Are you really, really surprised that it doesn't have optical out? Get a breakout box and be happy. They're not that expensive.

    Who knows why they didn't do it? Maybe the sound chip they chose didn't support TOSLINK. Maybe the accountants said they were going to shoot the next engineer that wants to add another feature. Maybe they didn't think that enough people wanted to put these in as media centers to justify the expense.

    Whatever the case, bitching about it on /. is not useful.

    Bang. Looks factory. Works great. My Bluetooth one rocks.

    You can add any of a dozen multi-button mice as accessories from the Apple store. They'll come with your new computer. All they do is not take the one-button mouse out of the box. This is not, repeat: Not a problem.

    Come on: When you want to customize your car, do you whine because the body kit you wan't isn't factory?
