    Since (according to my gp) it hasn't happened, I suggest you re-visit your premises.

    It's not up to the board admins to foot the bill to make the information publicly available. It's up to the board admins to do whatever it is they want to do without any regard for value sets other than their own (within the bounds of the law, of course).

    Actually, it looks like a little dialog box on my screen that says "Would you like to join the network LINKSYS?"

    Contents of the packet sniffer are clearly irrelevant. Point is, if the system in question hadn't broadcast its name, and the appropriate DHCP info to allow the connection, the connection would not have occured.

    Clicking is not hacking.

    Anti-intellectual? That's a bit of a reach.

    Literature is just as "intellectual" a pursuit as fashion. (That's to say, "not very".) I love to read great writers, but I have no interest whatsoever in what a bunch of insular literature professors might think about it.

    Same goes for movie critics. The professors just have more letters after their names.

    A big part of my appreciation of Vonnegut has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with what a bunch of "literary elites" think about anything.

    As a matter of fact, I can't think of a single time in my life that I thought to myself, "Gee! I wonder what the literary elites would think about that?"

    For what it's worth, my Treo 700 does that without a problem. It works great. It has a number of other annoyances, but the multitasking is certainly sufficient to carry on a phone conversation and take notes (or read cached email or play a game or whatever) while I'm on the phone.

    I was all set to hate the thumb keyboard (I liked Graffiti a lot), but honestly I don't miss it at all. The keyboard is remarkably non-crappy.

    YMMV.
