    I think the point here is that you never release the original binary.
    And the code looks pretty much like its compiler generated.

    Some instructions have dont care bits in them.
    You could remove these bits in order to compress the file but they occur so rarely its not worth it.
    And yes the redundency would have been used up.

    Yet another pointless unit to make people go woo. Along with the width of a hair.
    They might as well talk about the total mass of all electrons and photons (you never know) ammounting to the waight of 29 elehpants with the number growing to 30 elephants and two donkeys. Have these people hear of SI units?

    I have been getting spam addressed to [my_unix_username]@[my_machinename].cs.man.ac.uk
    My machine passes the mail to me but I have no idea how the people got this address.
    The only way I can think of is if someone used finger @ on the machines in the department and then stuck the username with the machinename.
    As far as I am aware the finger@ is blocked to people outside the department so I am starting to suspect that some students are behind this.
    Especially as the spam is for local companies.

    But its better to have a processor thats reconfigureable. I am working on an "open computer" which allows you to make your machine into anything you want (once you get bored of your x86 then turn it into a playstation) and run an a totally open system (i.e. the hardware is open as well as the software).

    Putting together an FPGA and a CPU is very very cheap nowdays and the possibilities are huge.
    We made these boards and there very nice to pla around with.
    I got them to drive LCDs (play pong or display images) and once even drive a osiloscope and make something like a TV.(black and white 40 lines)
    But the point was to allow students to maske anything they want with them.

    Even if Borland could find an old copy of PowerBase they can't do anything without NCR taking legal action against them. There is no system to get patents withdrawn unless the owner takes someone else to court.

    The problem is that companies who pantent things which are obveousley common sence or knowledge cannot be stopped without going through the courts. I know of many companies who have patents across things they should not but I cannot do anything unless do they take me to court. And by then its too late and I can't defend my self.

    The only thing you can do is publish every idea you have no matter how stupidly obveous. (Cat overclocking hats for example).

    Day five: First posting of a picture taken at the event but now when viewed again reveals the face of Neil Armstrong. It must be his ghost
    Day six: Neil revealed t be still alive. And the people rejoised.
    Day seven: Someone find a sentence in the bible "And eight stars shall fall from the sky". The computer must count for that last one.
    Day eight: Reporters now have to over exagurate the importance any evidence. Any and all items found link directly to Elvis.

    It was bound to happen. It allways takes a week or so before the theories start popping up.
    Anyway I think it was the Aliens with the Communists conspiering to destroy the Anti-terror pact by exposing that the space shuttle doesnt go into space ata all and instead just flies around the place.

    Its a pityfull shame its dieing. If they can get that sort of performance when the company is being screwed around then what kind of beast can they make in a stable environment.

    I, like many other computer engineers, worship the ground that alpha designers stood on. To imagine that they for a bit of a laugh as an aside project created the StrongARM seems silly.

    Big server companies cannot just drop products. There would be so much of an outcry that no one would buy the next range from then because they could drop that too.

    EV8 was a finished product when the lots of compaq hp stuff started happening and so hp wouldnt kill it of after all that money being put into it. hp decided to suck up to intel forever now and supporting the remenents of the alpha while it makes money is still a good idea to them.

    The last reson is that compaq employees would be a little hurt and dissatisfied if hp went along and killed every product they had.

    Its a shame that hp dont want to push the alpha and that it was a little delayed due to the transition. If it was released a few months ago hp would have probably kept the line open for a few years longer.

    It doesnt matter that itanic is a sinker. All the companies like HP, SGI etc. are gonna keep it afloat, even if it means killing their own children. e.i. Alpha :(

    What do people think is going to happen to the price of old ATA drives once the serial drives kick in?
    Are they gonna tumble down in price as the hard disk is usually one part of the computer that you move to the upgraded PC and so you will want to get the serial ones to ensure you can still use them later. This will make the old disks nice and cheap. (like SDRAM)
    Or will the old disks become so rare that they are more expencive than the new versions (Like old EDO SIMMs).
