    I never tried it but i cant think it is very hard to kill yourself. Just a rope and a tree or so. Or a high building.
    Of course you can be unlucky and stay alive. But i think i could kill myself.
    Additionally there are documents on the web with instructions how to kill yourself.
    Shouldnt be hard at all.

    Here in Austria there is a program for special gifted children.. but it is only a crap. It is partly integrated in a normal school. Thats very bad IMO, cause the special gifted get more and better learning materials (computers, video recorders and so on..) so the other kids are jealous.
    And btw, those "special gifteds" arent very special gifted.

    perhaps his parents thought it would be the best to leave him alone for a while. In my experience beeing alone is good for sorting your thought, to get clear.
    I am sure his parents never thought that he would commit suicide. Never ever. The article says he was a nice happy youngster, not a depressed lonely kid.. so why should they have thought about this?

    i just cant imagine most people committing suicide do this really well considered. Often it is just a overreaction. Sure, if i think about killing myself i imagine i will write a pile of letters to my family and how i loved them and so on. But if i really would committ suicide, this wont be the case, i think. It would be a suitiation in which i were really miserable. I wouldnt be in the mood to write many letters and so..
    And of course he was mentally unstable when he just came home from school and was suspended.

    i think everyone thought about suicide. Some more intensive, some not so much.
    But i think usually it's a quite long way from thinking about suicide to committing suicide.

    If you want the docs for CDDB 1 protocol, search for them on the web. i have found them in variuous places. At least I think its cddb1. aahh.. cddb.howto 1.27 98/12/09 it says..

    You mean the server was GPL or the data in it? If it was the data, why can they ristrict access to it? Yeah, if you are the original creator, you can change the license whenever you want. (As i read on /. some days ago..) But they arent the original creators of their data, i thought? Either the users which submitted the entires are or the artists which thought out the songs titles etc..

    You know dialog? Its quite simpel - you write shellscripts which call dialog with various parameters and it e.g. writes the input of a textfield to stdout..
    And AFAIK there is a xdialog too.. but it's not _that_ portable as you would like it..
    Just thougt it might be of interest for you..

    I think too thats it valuable. I mean, Linux is known to be used only by c00l hackerz. (Not that this would be true, but it's proably what many "normal" computer users think). AtheOS could try to appear as normal desktop OS. And whether you like it that GUI and OS are so glued together, it can be practical. You wouldnt have to care about installing the GUI after system installation..
    Hope my comment is understandable :P

    As said in the article they have the publicity..
    Dont underestimate this.
    And the arent bad at making nice GUIs, which is important too if a piece of software wants to get accepted. (hmm.. strange why napster was accepted, IMO :)

    What about a completely new internet?
    I mean, i didnt know the first years of the internet. When only universities were using it. When all the commercial stuff was more or less out of it. But as far as i know it i think it must have been great. So why not building a new one? Perhaps every 20 years or so, when the old one is fucked up, just create an internet[n+1] :)

    here in AT there are to types of CD-Rs: The normal ones, which are cheap, dont have an additional tax, AFAIK. But the "Audio CD-Rs", as they are called, have it. It is said they are exactl the same thing.. the difference is only you make a present to nice copright-orgs with the Audio-CD-Rs..

    i have to admit that i dont know exactly what (A)DSL is, but whatever it is exactly, it seems to be some sort of modem. I live in europe and have a chello connection which goes over the same line as cable TV. So we need some sort of modem hier too. some great box.. we only borrow them from the provider.. the company gets some money as bail, and when i dont want to have chello anymore, i _should_ get the money back (havent tried yet:)

    and BTW: excuse my english, i hope my comments is understandable..

    im not a guru either (though i have compiled my own kernel :). But i dont think you are correct: You dont have to recompile your kernel whenever you change e.g. you NIC IP.
    One option "turn additional security on" and then you compile your kernel. Afterwards you configure it with some utils or through /proc ..
    Only my 0.02 Euros..
