If you are making a site with just absic info, then yes, you are stupid if you cant make it cross browser.
However, working for an iteractive media development company, we get requests to do things such as ridiculous DHTML events, which i do admit are cool and all but, do not work for all browsers. Especially when you have such diverse implementations of DHTML as Ntscape and IE do.
We are no longer in the age of the internet being a text based doo-dah. The internet is now also a form of entertainment (still a carrier of information too as such is the TV).
Yes, Millward Brown are a company in Creamorne, Sydney (for you locals). They do a whole lot of information based stuff, such as surveys and analytical data.
I work for a visual effects company here in Australia, and we still use big SGI's along with NT renderfarms.
We have movies such as The Matrix, Babe and Thin Red Line to our name.
The best thing about using NT is, the same machines which are used for animating and modelling in the day can be used for rendering in the night. This to me makes more sense than buying a machine for one specific role.
A lot of times the company would like to know exactly how you would fit within a certain project.
Therefore they may need to go into detail about it in order to make sure that you have the attributes required to fulfil the role.
I do graphic design, and I have great design skills etc but my skills may be more appropriate in one area and not another.
It is also a way for the company to tell you exactly what you will be required to do in order for you to evaluate wether or not you want the position. Im sure that no company wants somebody who doesnt want to work on what they are working on.
You have to remember tasel that anybody who wants to get ahead doesnt want their ideas stolen. Im sure you would do the same if you were in their shoes.
Basicaly, its simple.
They do not need to port MS Office to UNIX.
By having IE available on UNIX they are making it possible to have people use their upcoming.NET product on UNIX..NET is great for M$ because they dont have to worry about the platform. Only the browser.
I'm from eastern beaches in sydney, you can email me shawn_bobo@hotmail.com and we could talk more about this...
