    Claims an iphone 3g can do 20Mflops double precision linpack.
    Assuming there are about 100M handsets with that level of performance:
    2000 Million (10^6), Million(10^6) flops = 2 * 10^15 = 2 petaflops, and that's just the smartphones. The laptops and desktops would both perform better, and have a much higher count.

    Unless you're ethically opposed to bing, bing is better. Ask also typically has better results these days.

    They've lost their way. I predict they'll be gone in slightly longer than it took them to grow. They're facing an avalanche of defections as the alpha geeks leave them and begin suggesting alternatives to their friends. Facebook search is going to be their undoing.

    Yep. It has become absolutely clear that Google is now devoted to providing the most profitable search results rather than the best search results. The moment they went down that path they were doomed.

    We use a take-home exam followed by phone screen (followed by in-person interview). To the best of my ability to detect, no one has gamed the take-home without being caught by the phone screen (and we have caught a few). So the phone screen, to me, is a key part of the take-home programming exam. Ask lots of questions about their work, why do something this way vs that, etc. Pretty easy to spot when someone else did the work.

    By school, I was including day care. Lots and lots are in daycare from 6 mos.

    But yes, that is almost certainly coincident and not causal, and rather actually related to the 'back to sleep' campaign instead.

    Obviously not true, but also not impossible. Norming to 100 doesn't guarantee the actual distribution is bell.
    Imagine the actual distribution was: 51% 120, 49% 79
    What's the average? What IQ do most people have?

    SIDS is still a big mystery, but since they started restricting peanut allergens in schools, the rate has dropped by about half.

    If you live in a conservative area, then it's probably explained by sampling bias. SV is very, very liberal, and has the highest diagnosis rate in the country (for whatever reason).

    You understand that IQavg = 100, and that it's normalized, right? That 100 is average not because that's how smart people are, but because that's how smart people were when they normalized it?
