    We shouldn't listen OR not listen to anyone based on the history of other people's failed claims. We should judge claims based on their merit/evidence.

    I read a lot of sarcasm there, but actually I think a significant majority of slashdotters probably agree with you.

    Meh. The chance that we will kill all of humanity is pretty low. Granted, it will be hard to reboot society without oil, but if there are enough functional solar panels before the collapse recovery will not be egregiously difficult.

    It's just unfortunately a closer call than most people think, and the risk is substantial. You can't ever escape your student loan debt if the increased earnings don't pan out.

    What you said and what she said were so qualitatively different it's ridiculous to claim 'that's what she meant to say'. Your statement doesn't even align with her own follow-up attempts to rewrite what she said herself.

    And, yes, Obama has made gaffes too. In my opinion, substituting 57 for 47 is a somewhat less serious gaffe than Palin's, but YMMV.
