  1. Re:Nice Software But... on We Pay Our Rent By Buying Coffee · · Score: 1

You sound like a swell friend...really a joy to be around.

I haven't purchased Delicious Monster's software yet, but I intend to. The reason I buy DVDs that I love, as oppose to renting them, is very much to share them with friends. Very few of my 100 or so DVDs do I really watch with any regularity. A few of them I probably haven't made up for the money I could have saved just renting them. But part of the joy is being able to show to friends when they come over or letting them borrow them. And when I lend them out is when I lose them. Not because I have crappy friends who are mooching, but because we both forget about it.

Its keyboard and Graffiti. Its keyboard or Graffiti. The keyboard occupies the area where Graffiti would be. However, if you opt for the keyboard version, you can get a program that will allow you to type graffiti anywhere on the screen.

The GSM model is coming out first. However, according to Palm Developers Program, the CDMA model is soon to follow. That will allow the phone to work with services such as Sprint PCS. So keep your pants on. Personally, its the best combo Palm/phone I've seen and I'm willing to switch to Cingular to free up a pocket.

You say you have to pay steep monthly fees for cell phone/internet access. However, you pay only about $10/month more than normal cell phone service as opposed to paying Palm.net or something of the sort $20 or $30 a month for internet access for your Palm on top of your cell phone service. If $10/month is too steep for you, the Treo will still be a great combination of a Palm w/o internet and a cell phone.

  4. Re:IBM Visual Age for Java on Java IDEs? · · Score: 2, Informative

I work for IBM and have used Visual Age for a couple projects. I agree the auto-complete feature is an excellent tool for turning out code. Not only does it fill in Java core functions, it also fills in functions and members of the classes you have written. Keeps you from constantly referring to a constant file (no pun intended). Other great features of Visual Age include an easy to use debugger and the ability to graphically view the OO hierarchy of any class.

However, the drawback to VAJ is its size makes it a cumbersome application. In addition, files must be imported and exported, meaning they cannot be edited by any other editor without being exported first. Not to mention, VAJ costs over $1000.

Thankfully, IBM is coming out with an IDE that provides all the features listed above while eliminating the need to import or export files and reducing the size of the application. Even better the new IDE is free, Open-Source. Mentioned on slashdot a couple days ago, the new IDE is a part of the Eclipse Project. They just released version 1.0. You have to join the Eclipse community to download and but its a simple process.

  5. Re:Screw the Combo players on What's The Best Combo DVD/VCD/CD/MP3 Player? · · Score: 1

I agree with the anonymous coward. I have used a couple different DVD players and have discovered that different quality machine produce noticable different results. I tried to use my computer as a dvd player for a while, but it skips on occasion and problems arise with a remote. I had a JVC, but it had trouble between chapters and between layers. Those were just DVD players. Combo players do not normally perform as well as separate components and I know Apex is not a high quality brand. I think your best bet is to go with a quality DVD player, like a Sony and then if you want to save some money with the MP3, just run a cord from your sound card into your stereo receiver.
