    the bosses aren't the problem, the problem is the amount of product

    i like most rock from the mid 60s to present day. there are so many good bands to listen to that its impossible to buy it all on CD. too expensive.

    recorded music is your advertising and you should be making money on live performances from the real fans

    just like almost every line of business these days. break even or lose on 90% of your customers and make your profit on the rest. something like 4% of dropboxe's customers pay them, yet they make A LOT of money

    that means no need for NAT and your "real" IP will be visible on the internets

    you know that box that sold tens of millions of units and you can watch cable TV on it, youtube, movies and lots of other services? most people still watch this stuff on a TV, not a phone or tablet

    my mom still emails me nonsense like people used to do 10 years ago, but for most of us this has been replaced by sharing nonsense to facebook

    how many myspace connect buttons do you see on the internet these days to let you create an account?

    almost every legit website will let you use your FB account for the site account or link it so you don't have to remember a different ID per site

    WTF are you talking about?

    facebook is growing PROFITS at almost 100% every year. Revenue is up 5X over the last 3 years. they are about at the same point in revenue/profits as when google went public.

    the only people i know who still use email are my mom and my kid's baseball team. everyone else i know uses facebook. gmail is mostly for spam and crap email

    openID is dead. most legit websites with a login will let you use your facebook account. Facebook is the identity of the internet going forward.

    if you go back to the 1980's crime was a lot more rampant, murder rates were double and triple what they are today. the justice system was a joke and criminals were back on the street within hours of being arrested.

    in NYC i used to see drug dealers openly selling drugs on the streets with cops 50 feet away saying they couldn't do anything about it

    between guiliani and bloomberg they cleaned up NYC. its safe now in most places. and putting drug users/dealers in jail is part of the reason

    it seems like almost everything they sell is OEM'd by someone else and HP just makes sure it works together, rebrands the drivers, rebrands the hardware and markets it. I've bought HP branded Emulex HBA's that looked just like the Emulex branded ones. drivers were compatible as well.

    except printers and ink does HP really make anything on it own?

    the US two party system is in name only. in effect we have what we always had, the small states vs the big states and cities vs suburban/rural areas. the opinions of republicans and democrats will differ based on their state and where they are within their state. there are democrats from smaller states that are more conservative than republicans from north east states

    the electoral college is partly the result of this city vs rural political battle

    i live in NYC but the political opinions of those who live in the 99% by land mass of NY State outside NYC will usually be very different from us city people

    it might work for a few thousand people, but not for modern nations of tens of millions of people living across millions of square miles, different climates, etc

    the US Constitution was a result of months of bitter argument and bickering. same with politics in almost every democracy on earth. except that you will normally have a party win 40% or so of the vote and they will have to make a coalition with lots of smaller parties and make political deals as a process

    this is called life. the US has 300 million people. say almost 200 million adults who can vote. almost everyone will have different opinions on every subject based on their home location, upbringing, etc.

    to pass laws that affect different people you have to make political deals

    this childish star trek fantasy of an all wise council making the right decision is just a fantasy. there is no right decision for most people

    other than tracking you on the internet google uses all kinds of other data it buys from third parties to figure out who you are to target advertising

    my father in law is getting acura ads non-stop in his gmail
    he barely knows how to use a computer
    yet he has a 9 year old acura and is shopping for a new car. but hasn't done it online. he gets brochures from the dealerships

    only explanation is that google buys up auto registration/sale data, matches it up with your IP and internet subscriber data to target ads

    virgin has crappy phones and the current Nexus only supports GSM. CDMA versions are sold by the carriers

    the MVNO carriers operate on the cheap. everyone knows how much data any given phone will eat up in a month which is why the MVNO carriers like to limit which phones they support. no one will allow an iphone/galaxy or any other high res screen phone on their MVNO network for $35 a month

    yep

    the AT&T and VZW family plan prices are cheap enough that i don't have any inclination to mess with the prepaid MVNO carriers in the US. and even with those some like to limit which phones they will allow on their network

    and with family data bundle pricing coming this summer i don't see the point of this so called freedom of not having a contract

    Europe is different but here in the US most carriers won't give you a break on the bill. i'm on a family plan and its A LOT cheaper than being on a single line plan so buying contract-free doesn't make sense for me.
