    they started so many wars that they didn't have enough people to replace their losses and after a while the allies' industrial might out produced the german army

    battle of the bulge the US army was sending high school kids straight off the boat with no equipment and no training into battle. when they died, there were more of them. not so for german losses

    why can't these republicans, and the rural areas are almost fully republican who preach the evils of taxes and high government spending not pay for it themselves? all the tea party nonsense is how bad the blue high tax parts of the country are and yet it's the red states that suck up most of the federal government money for airports that like 5 people use in a year and bridges with one car a day of traffic

    when i explained what a smart TV was to my mom all she said was that it was a way to make you spend more money, which is true

    all the faster connections do is make impulsive challenged people buy something NOW and spend more money

    they do this in NYC after 9am. all the lights are computer controlled

    stupid people can't wait to cross the street and the few that die cause everyone to have to drive slower. on weekends some major roads in NYC are insane where the lights are timed to make you stop at almost every light

    because the whole point is to slow traffic down in residential areas so you don't hit anyone who is walking
    even at stop signs in some places people get wild and almost run pedestrians over

    city airports are paid for by debt backed by the fees that travelers pay to use them
    some of these startups are trying to use the infrastructure and avoid the fees

    unless you're in one of the best high schools in the USA and one of the top people in the school in math and want to be a CS major, don't bother applying to the best CS programs unless you have scholarships and your parents have money to pay

    you are better off going to your state school and taking out less loans you will have to repay

    yeah, meanwhile all the heroic family owned businesses in NYC are fighting a new proposed law to give employees at any business with more than 5 employees 5 paid sick days per year separate from vacation days

    and i hear they all offer at least some health, pension benefits and the ability to be promoted into management of the family business

    most of the cloud is for small companies who cannot afford data center space
    for larger organizations with terabytes or hundreds of TB of data it doesn't make any sense to dump their data into this cloud thing

    you do have to pay, you pay your ISP to upload data to the cloud or someone else
    used to be that every business had an ISP or paid a tier 1 network directly. with netflix and youtube doing over 50% of the internet traffic it only makes sense to send data directly to ISP's

    Apparently its ok for netflix to pay cogent or level 3 to send data to comcast or AT&T

    But if they connect directly to comcast or AT&T, INSTEAD of the traditional transit networks its somehow bad

    because direct peering with ISP's means netflix can go around level 3 and cogent and save money

    it's not like they are paying AT&T and comcast and also paying their Tier 1 providers. netflix is now connecting straight from their data centers to the ISP's on dedicated fiber links and bypassing the Tier 1 networks all together

    some idiots can't seem to understand this

    if netflix's network provider is having problems it's not AT&T's problem
