    the USA has enough free space where you can buy a cheapo house in the middle of no where and grow your own food and live a self sufficient life

    so why does this not work in NYC?

    almost every new ultra luxury building has 20% apartments set aside for low income people and rich people still buy condos there. granted they have separate elevators and entrances, but the lower income people here are spread around the city and not packed into ghettos like in the 60's with the public housing projects

  4. not to bring reality into this, but a lot of rich people rarely retire. they are always looking for new business opportunities.

    spending their money to go live out a life of perpetual vacation is not something they would do

    this is off topic, but there is lots of history that shows that some of these dystopian ideas are dumb. the USA and Australia were both originally populated by criminals, slaves, and people the UK didn't want. both became greater than the mother country because people don't just give up and die.

    lots of other examples from history like greece, the middle east, ancient rome where the colonies became greater than the original

    MS has lost billions of $$$ on bing, x-box and other experiments funded by Windows and Office license sales which are now slowing and decreasing. microsoft has been innovating for years but not profitably. they had commercial tablets before apple, mobile devices and cloud services long before cloud became a buzz word.

    apple on the other hand has a rule that every product must be profitable. even the apple tv turns a small profit.

    the last week has been pretty cool in NYC. i haven't turned on my AC in over a week. too cold to drink iced coffee.

    You can't be this dumb in real life

    All the three letter agencies report too congress for funding
    They all have their sub committees in the house and senate they testify to on a regular basis. The recommendations go to the full congress for voting

    To be on one of these secret congressional committees you have to get a security clearance and the testimony is taken in a special sealed room in the Capitol building

    Where do all these agencies get billions in funding if not voted by the entire congress and signed into law by the president

    no biggie. just buy food from other countries like we do in the winter time

    most of the food grown in the US is not fit for human consumption. its to send off to some factory to make a food product out of it

    here in NYC i see this all the time. a lot of the newer immigrants the adult kids live with parents. kids with trust funds have lots of money to pay the rent in nice apartments and have lots of cash to spare.
    meanwhile all the independent minded people spend all their money on rent and living expenses and have nothing for the future
    then later in life the leeches get help from the old people to buy property and get further ahead in life than the perpetual renters
    the native americans did this too. they had huge homes where large extended family units lived and the older people helped with the kids while the younger people worked.

    and in my case i'm not 40 and have almost 50% equity in my home due to living with parents a long time ago and saving some money for a down payment

    you can get good kindle ebooks very cheap. sites like ereaderiq track books and authors and alert you for price drops. i bought ender's game for $5 last week. then it dropped to $3.

    the only expensive books are the new releases people want to read NOW when they come out

    android is open source

    the whole point is you take the code, do whatever you want with it and only give back your code changes. the whole point of open source is that you and your competitors both contribute to the code base and either make commodity cheapo stuff or somehow make your product stand out from the others with the same code base
