When I discovered that Gnome 3 didn't work properly with two separate X servers (one for my laptop's screen and one for my external screen), I junked Fedora and switched to Linux Mint as they were still using Gnome 2.
Now I see that the latest Linux Mint has switched to Gnome 3 and it still does not work properly with separate X servers! WTF?
I honestly fail to believe that a user like me with two Compiz cubes, one on each screen, is an unusual case. The Gnome 3 devs seems to have been completely blinded by their own hubris.
I ditched Fedora when they introduced Gnome 3 as it simply does not run properly on two screens and switched to Linux Mint.
I use my laptop's screen and an external monitor configured as separate X servers. This setup works perfectly with Gnome 2 and is totally useless with Gnome 3.
So, anyone know if the next Linux Mint will support this?
A quick look at prisjakt.nu (a Swedish price comparison site) shows that prices on all models currently in the 'sweet spot' have risen by around 20% over the last two weeks!
Probably the clearest indicator that the shortage is real.
When the first release of Fedora with Gnome 3 came out, I discovered the same problems. It was a shame to have to dump Fedora, but I switched to Linux Mint so that I could still use my laptop with dual, independent X screens.
Until the Gnome developers fix this, I'll be staying with whatever distro still supports Gnome 2. Proper functionality with two screens is basic stuff and the excuses for not fixing it that I have heard just don't cut it.
I have not purchased anything from Sony since they released audio CDs with embedded root-kits and I will never buy anything from them again.
The impact of my own boycott is minimal, but if everyone took the same approach, Sony would at best go out of business and maybe, at the least, stop acting like the corporate bully that they are.
The current version available from mozilla.org refuses to install. You can install the dev version without having to turn off 'compatibility' checking.
I just can't live without "Disable Text Ads" from Userscripts.org. Getting rid of IntelliTXT, Adbrite et al, really makes the pages safe to mouse-over again! Script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3637
Like many people, in countries where the price of fuel makes the average American go pale when translated into dollars, I have a locking filler cap. This robot needs to come round to my window, politely ask for my key and unlock the thing itself!
Not quite. The TSA and other Orwellian organisations like the DHS exist to make Amkerikans compliant with arbitrary searches and requests for 'papers'.
It's really sad to see this drivel modded up as 'informative'. The only thing I see in this posting is a clear demonstration of the poster's lack of knowledge.
Shame on those who modded this up!!
The fact of the matter is that relying on a third party to provide security for your communications is at best naive and at worst stupid. There are simple ways to use computers for secure communication and some of them do involve PGP. However, just using strong cryptography leaves a communications fingerprint which is likely to draw attention from all the people and organisations that the encryption was supposed to short-cut in the first place.
In short, anyone who was using hushmail for anything really important should be preparing for the knock on the door...
As another poster has quite rightly pointed out: this is a new law creating
certain criminal offences. Other laws, relating to civil offences
are unchanged and the EU directive that all member states are already supposed
to have complied with created the civil offences long ago.
All mobiles with a hefty price tag are trying to be the mythical 'convergence device'.
Sadly, we still can't reasonably put all the functions into the phone and get anything like decent battery life.
Also, before anyone starts getting excited...there are other drawbacks to convergence:
A camera that only just deserves to be described as such, and will never
be more than a snap-cam with the tiny lens forced upon it by the format.
And I don't care how many megapixels it has!
A TV that also manages to just make the grade to be called so, but seriously, who
watches anything on a mobile phone screen?
Is it good for mail? Depends how much of your life you can waste trying to key
a longer message on a T9 or micro-qwerty keyboard.
I can see in the slightly longer term that mobile phones will replace MP3 players and sure, PDAs were such a bad idea, that it was obvious that your phone, synced to your computer's PIM was going to edge the PDA out of the market. And sure, the mobile makes a great MP3 player.
In then end though, form and function are still important factors: if you are going to take a photograph, do it with a camera that won't disappoint you.
Same with the TV - size matters.
Apple's iPhone is a zero-buzz product. Hell they didn't even think to put 3G in it so that they could sell the damn thing in Europe.
Current statistics give a 1% risk of miscarriage after amniocentesis. Also, the amount of cells in the volume of fluid that would normally be collected is likely to be small.
Nethack was originally released in 1987.
The last update to the website was in 2004, a total of seventeen years of evolution.
Nethack itself is a branch of Rogue, which itself came out in 1980.
TFA does not even mention Nethack. So much for history...
Although Sweden is way ahead of many countries when it comes to personal freedom and rights, you should do a bit more research before making sweeping statements. For example, there are over 3800 homeless people in Stockholm alone. They don't sleep in parks at the moment as they would be frozen to death if they tried!
Furthermore, note that Sweden's current justice minister Thomas Bodström has been one of the driving powers behind the EU's data retention directive among other freedom restricting laws.
Alcohol is not more easily available in Sweden than other countries. Didn't you notice that only the Government shops can sell alcohol? And that they don't open on Sundays or after 3 on Saturdays? Didn't you notice how expensive it is to drink in Sweden?
As regards other drugs, Sweden has some of the most backwards policies in the world; they don't even have a needle exchange in Stockholm, resulting in more deaths caused by heroin addiction per 100 addicts than any other European country.
There are many things that are good about Sweden, but try taking off the rose coloured glasses.
France, as a member of the EU, has signed up to the European Union Copyright Directive. EU law says that they can't do this. End of discussion. The parliament can vote for what they like, but as soon as a media company takes the issue to the European court, the parliament will be corrected.
I tried Gnome 3 when Fedora 15 came out.

I'll stick with what I have thanks.
How about Sweden? Any trace of drugs in your bloodstream is considered as being guilty of possession.
Not cool.

Actually, I was thinking of charging my Tesla Model S with the long-range (85KW/h) battery pack in 15 minutes...
Some 1,500 Amps at 220V!!!
Personal sub-stations anyone?

Stop invading other countries!
I hope I can save you the time of looking for the latest dev version that installs and works without problems in RC1...

I guess the author of the review really does not want to know what his surname means in Swedish.... :=)

In what particular way will this solve the problem?
His feet are just where the thrust from those VTOL
engines will be coming down. (unless he takes off from
his belly - not a good sales argument).
jets + thrust = hot!
The checks certainly exist, but in my part of the English

Sorry, I appear to be drooling!
Are you serious?

While it might sound nice to have IM on your mobile, the story summary about 3G providing a more real-time experience is nonsense.
How fast can you key a sentence on a mobile phone, even with predictive T9 input? My guess is about a tenth of the speed that you can with a keyboard.
This is just another desperate strategy from the mobile companies to try and get back some of the ridiculous fees they paid for their 3G licenses.
So...it's Sarbanes-Oxley compliant *and* "secure"...
I don't think so...
