Now I see that the latest Linux Mint has switched to Gnome 3 and it still does not work properly with separate X servers! WTF?
I honestly fail to believe that a user like me with two Compiz cubes, one on each screen, is an unusual case. The Gnome 3 devs seems to have been completely blinded by their own hubris.

A quick look at prisjakt.nu (a Swedish price comparison site) shows that prices on all models currently in the 'sweet spot' have risen by around 20% over the last two weeks!
Probably the clearest indicator that the shortage is real.

The fact of the matter is that relying on a third party to provide security for your communications is at best naive and at worst stupid. There are simple ways to use computers for secure communication and some of them do involve PGP. However, just using strong cryptography leaves a communications fingerprint which is likely to draw attention from all the people and organisations that the encryption was supposed to short-cut in the first place.
In short, anyone who was using hushmail for anything really important should be preparing for the knock on the door...

certain criminal offences. Other laws, relating to civil offences
are unchanged and the EU directive that all member states are already supposed
to have complied with created the civil offences long ago.
All mobiles with a hefty price tag are trying to be the mythical 'convergence device'.
Sadly, we still can't reasonably put all the functions into the phone and get anything like decent battery life.
Also, before anyone starts getting excited...there are other drawbacks to convergence:
A camera that only just deserves to be described as such, and will never
be more than a snap-cam with the tiny lens forced upon it by the format.
And I don't care how many megapixels it has!
A TV that also manages to just make the grade to be called so, but seriously, who
watches anything on a mobile phone screen?
Is it good for mail? Depends how much of your life you can waste trying to key
a longer message on a T9 or micro-qwerty keyboard.
I can see in the slightly longer term that mobile phones will replace MP3 players and sure, PDAs were such a bad idea, that it was obvious that your phone, synced to your computer's PIM was going to edge the PDA out of the market. And sure, the mobile makes a great MP3 player.
In then end though, form and function are still important factors: if you are going to take a photograph, do it with a camera that won't disappoint you.
Same with the TV - size matters.
Apple's iPhone is a zero-buzz product. Hell they didn't even think to put 3G in it so that they could sell the damn thing in Europe.

Alcohol is not more easily available in Sweden than other countries. Didn't you notice that only the Government shops can sell alcohol? And that they don't open on Sundays or after 3 on Saturdays? Didn't you notice how expensive it is to drink in Sweden?
As regards other drugs, Sweden has some of the most backwards policies in the world; they don't even have a needle exchange in Stockholm, resulting in more deaths caused by heroin addiction per 100 addicts than any other European country.

While it might sound nice to have IM on your mobile, the story summary about 3G providing a more real-time experience is nonsense.
How fast can you key a sentence on a mobile phone, even with predictive T9 input? My guess is about a tenth of the speed that you can with a keyboard.
This is just another desperate strategy from the mobile companies to try and get back some of the ridiculous fees they paid for their 3G licenses.
