  1. Web server based RAID? on iPod Shuffle RAID · · Score: 1

I guess the web server was using this RAID...dead already.

  2. Visio support??? on Pitfalls and Options For Business-Desktop Linux · · Score: 1

Where's my Visio support? Same thing for OS X! As a network designer/implementer I absolutely require Visio support, and converting to 2003 compliant XML files doesn't count.

The description of the fair.org survey:

"This research project examined the supposed left orientation of media personnel by surveying Washington-based journalists who cover national politics and/or economic policy at US outlets."

    so...

"Hey reporter...do you think you are liberal or conservative?"

    Yeah, sounds objective to me.

DHCP is real useful when you don't have a DHCP server on the network....yeah....uh-huh

Jabber servers typically support add-on gateways to the major IM providers. Have one Jabber account and you can easily message all of your friends.

Why use it? It's open, it's standards based, it's extensible.

I like it because you can SSL encrypt your sessions! Sure there are other encryption methods on the other IM services, but can you trust them?

And yes, I use Trillian and encrypt also, which works pretty well on AIM.

  6. NAT fixes everything is tired on The Impending IP Crisis · · Score: 2, Insightful

    NAT for your car?
    NAT for your PAN?
    NAT on a plane?

How many protocols have been kludged up because of having to get around NAT?

Easier VPN's and Voice/Video are two things I can think of.

On a slightly different note, anyone who says NAT's good for security...wow.

  7. Where's my kid? on Wozniak Unveils WozNet · · Score: 1

Privacy concerns aside, this could be good for two things I can think of.

If the base station is mobile I could let my kid (10 years old) run free in the park and know if he's being abducted.

I can know if my car is being stolen. It's rare that I'm more than a mile or two from my car. Poor man's Lojack.
