Doh, I meant for that last sentence to be:

<joke>Would we ever need to run fsck on a RAM disk?</joke>

Ok, in cases where the general idea here is to set up a honking huge virtual disk in RAM for unbelievably fast I/O instead of using actual disks where for some reason you have to go throught the motions of disk usage, what filesystem is best? (ext2, ext3, ReiserFS, etc.)

Would we ever need to run fsck on a RAM disk?

  3. Mobile Suit Gundam and 08th MS Team (not M$) on Best Sci Fi Currently On Television? · · Score: 1, Interesting

These two series are currently being aired on Cartoon Network. They're great. MS Gundam (the original) is old-school goodness and 08th MS Team is very nicely done. These ain't politically correct. Characters develop, characters even die, and they don't bother with brain-damaged pep talks afterwards. I do understand that anime is not universally appreciated here at /. but these really are legitimate sci-fi stories. Just thought I'd bring 'em up.

I remember seeing that and enjoying it, it's a pity they discontinued it. Thing is, though, the anime studios can write (they have their moments). IMHO, Exo Squad is highly derivative of the Gundam stories (Gundam being the original serious space-battle mecha story). Exo Squad derives from Mobile Suit Gundam in:
    • the use of an initially successful aggressor/revolutionary group (Neo Sapiens/Zeon Archduchy) to get the story rolling
    • the use of personal mecha for combat over a limited range (Exo Suits/Mobile Suits)
    • different factions of humans are fighting over the solar system (and haven't yet progressed beyond it)
    • and the fact that, to varying degrees, both stories mirror the events of the Pacific War (fighter pilots and aircraft carriers in the ocean of space)
I highly recommend Gundam 0083 (13 episodes), it rocks. It's little too serious-minded for the kiddies sometimes (not meant for 'em anyways), but I think you would dig it very much.

Oh, BTW, who thinks James "Terminator" Cameron's upcoming Dark Angel series is a bad ripoff of Battle Angel Alita? (Or maybe it's a ripoff of Armitage III?) He obtained some rights to do some Alita-related stuff in the US. (Try browsing to http://www.battleangelalita.com and see where you end up.)

And I'm supposed to be studying PHP and PostgreSQL right now. Does anybody know if PHP4 supports connections with PostgreSQL 7.0.2?
