Time Warner in NYC is getting ready to roll this out real soon. The digital cable converters are all set for VOD. The backbone infrastructure is getting there. Not complete yet but looks like it should be ready sometime in mid 2002.

Nothing specatular about it tho. Why would anyone want to pause for bathroom breaks. Isnt the whole point of a movie to sit still for two and a half hours while watching some running water drip down your tv screen. Damn that dude in the matrix. Cant believe he could hold it in. Its always what people can support instead of what does work. BUT consider that the general public has a hard time using a gui mac or windoze interface. Above that imagine walking through configuring command line linux to get a dynamic ip and dns set. In the alloted time allowed. Linux has always been a secretive best effort support in my book. You have to pass a test before Ill help you with your linux box...

BTW the current specs for RR support are as follows.
    full support
    windows 98
    windows me
    windows 2k
mac os 8.6 or better for classic
    pent 166
    32 MB ram

  14. what I want to see on Star Wars Galaxies · · Score: 2

Number one - No ingame jedi bullshit, you were born a jedi you die a jedi no getting there inbetween. Maybe there should be a lottery for newbies, every 1000 get a slightly higher amount of jedi skills.
Number two - you should be able to in the least; pick your skills, your trade, and your secret society. There should also be a control panel of sorts to show you your personal possesions your greater posessions and the lot.
Number three - No getting promoted from XP UNLESS you pass tests. Nuthin hard just get quized from a master level character or greater (possibly AI) in the area that you want to advance. That makes for greater game play since this forces you to know what you are talking about. (especially good if you are a travelling merchant)
Number four - xp should be given out for a number of situations, not just conquest in battle... Sell a hijacked star destroyer get a million xp and the chance to become a rebel admiral.
Number five - and most important try to remember to always stay in character, this game is going to be very popular and alot of people will be playing that just dont know how to act in a rpg let alone one with alot of other people around.

  15. missing the point on Chinese Government Perplexed By Internet Cafes · · Score: 1

Some thing about Chinas internet access seems wierd to me. As though the only people with unrestricted internet access will be those with high party access (even at that this will be restricted) and those who can afford to pay off the right people. The latter will probably be able to hit every site but with sufficient lag for it not to be very enjoyable. Oh well no quake three with factory owners. But the point is that the internet is supposed to be free not censored for the common man if anything it is supposed to be the opposite. Where the comman man can understand what is being said and the rest just cant get the same enjoyement they would as if (insert fun Chinese sport) was being played.
