approximately what the percent chance Comcasts appeal will work?
It's directly proportional to the wad of cash they give a senator. The FCC doesn't understand technology anyway. Also, consumers are too dumb to be able to make choices for themselves.
As the other poster pointed out, the trademark office/courts habitually shoot down similar sounding trademarks to trademarks already granted. My guesss is that the ifone trademark was abandoned in the first place because of this issue.
This alone will give it such penetration that network effects will make it a valuable OS, regardless of its other qualities or misfeatures.
I wonder how long this will last. Meaning, if people have to upgrade their computer, why wouldn't they buy a macintosh that will most likely not have the trojan/virus/adware/spyware problems??
Sure there's the ball and chain of running software that you already own, but from my own experience every new version of windows breaks many apps anyway.
But if you surf the web, use email, and write an occasional letter, and don't care about games, then the argument for a mac becomes more compelling.
As a side note, I know that many will point to linux, but the problem with linux is that there is a significant number of people that need a lot of hand holding, and as good as the distros have become there are circumstances where a device will not work for whatever reason and it would create a stumbling block for the user. Linux is certainly a possibility if there is a family sysadmin. Otherwise, there is a reason Apple advertises "works out of the box" so heavily.
I recommend PCLinuxos. It has the right mix of ease of use and fucntionality out of the box so you can see what the ins and outs of linux are with a minimum of transfer shock. Then you can try other distros once you have this under your belt.
The only whine I have is that the beta flash player doesn't work well for me as compared to other distros. But that's more adobe's fault than linux's. Hopefully this will be fixed shortly.
You would think that in a ten year stretch engines and cars would have become significantly more efficient - even the non-hybrid models.
Agreed. But I think the problem is multi-faceted. If cars were built out of light weight composites then the cost would be 5x what they are now (but they would get better gas mileage). Also, manufacturing infrastructure is geared to making each part as cheap as possible, with fuel economy a secondary priority. When I poke around fixing my cars, I marvel at the cheapness of parts and wonder why it couldn't be built a more reliable way that would last - then I realize that the parts/servicing department is an industry unto itself that would go away if an extra buck was spent on build quality. Another thing is cars are made to be snapped together, if a worker has to spend time on an old fashion bolt, then that would increase his time on that car and in turn raise costs.
So in the end, it's about profit and costs, because nobody wants to buy a car that gets 70 mph but costs $100,000.
I also have a hard time envisioning a steel car getting much higher mileage. I'm not saying it's impossible, but i have a hard time seeing it, esp. with all the safety requirements.
Can I get a date by wearing the goggles? Or can I get a girl to date me by her wearing them? Or can I date the girl in the picture? How do they work exactly??
If that guy in accounting is spending all his time downloading movies off from bittorent, wouldn't it be better to fire him instead of shaping his packets??

Do you even know what WebSphere is?
An orb of internets??
I suspect that that technology could work with HD-DVD too. I don't think that its format specific.
HD-DVD players can only read two layers, therefore no movie can ever have more than two layers.
I suspect that future players will be backwards compatible with the new format.

This is a hobby for some people?
If you have family members (aka parents) that need it but don't know how to do it, unfortunately yes.
As the other poster pointed out, the trademark office/courts habitually shoot down similar sounding trademarks to trademarks already granted. My guesss is that the ifone trademark was abandoned in the first place because of this issue.
Is arranging adwords to not get in the way of viewing planetary nebula.
When was the last time a new version of Microsoft Windows came out with a faster user interface?
When you bought the new computer?
March 1996 to April 1998: I was a script kiddie in my mom's basement.
/not that there is anything wrong with that...
I'm curious if perhaps it's time to switch to nuclear.
I think that the idea of floating breeder reactors or a floating three mile island will hamper that switch. Even though there are military nuke ships.

They are lookinf for hair gels. Not antennas.

I can imagine a scenario where the high gain antenna is housed in a suitcase also. Nobody would know.
Ergo, there's no need to panic here on Earth.
Correct. There is no global warming. I know it's inconvenient, but people need to stop peeing in the water when they go swimming. That is the truth.
there's probably a lot of slack that can be tightened up to restrict wasteful consumption.
You mean cancel the holidays??
Why would anyone buy a computer from a company that's owned mostly by the Chinese Government?
Because if we don't buy the laptops they will use them in their missiles?
Bzzzzt!!! wrong two words. How 'bout the

I can sniff out a KFC five blocks away and my sniffer can lead me there.
Do I have that right?
You forgot.

Hopefully within the next ten years we can have this problem solved
Dude, it'll be too late by then. We'll be up to web 10.0 by then easy.
