I think the issue is that Motorstorm and Excite Truck can't really be compared. While they are both Arcade Offroaders, that's where the similarities end. Excite Truck is a lot faster, with huge jumps and boosts. You just try to go through the course as quickly as possible, barely touching the ground at times. There's no simulation or reality involved. It's a kind of Offroad Mario Kart.
Motorstorm, on the other hand, requires you to read the ground. It moves much slower and, despite of clearly being an Arcade game, there is a lot of physics simulation and planning on the part of the driver involved. There's even a kind of tactical component in which car you choose and which course you take. It's also much harder than Excite Truck.
So whether you like the one or the other is probably more a result of your own taste, and less of the games' qualities. I like them both, but I like the mindless adrenaline rush of Excite Truck better.
Both of these games are, however, clearly unfinished and were rushed to meet the console's launch date - Excite Truck has no online component and only two-player split screen. Motorstorm has no split screen at all, and far too few tracks. The Japanese version of Motorstorm doesn't even have an online component!
So while most of the Wii's launch titles seem rushed and unfinished (especially Red Steel, which could have been absolutely awesome with only a few months more), the same is clearly true for the PS3. Even Resistance is not finished. Insomniac has actually kind of apologized for the game's graphics and said that while they had wanted to implement texture streaming, they did not have enough time, but that it would be in their next game - Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction.
They're not suckers. They're normal people. You might be happy with using a cardboard box as a table and a mattress on the ground as a bed, but most people care about how the stuff they put into their homes looks, in addition to whether it does the job.
You certainly do have a few weird views (one button mice are "one of the dumbest ideas ever in terms of modern operating environments"? Even if you accept that one button mice are stupid - which I don't - there must be hundreds of dumber ideas in modern PCs) , but this one was the strangest:
they are the illegal monopoly that is bogging down market forces. e.g., iPods
How in the world has Apple an "illegal monopoly" in the iPod market? Monopolies are not illegal, and 70% market share is hardly a monopoly to begin with.
As do I, but unfortunately there really isn't anything else you can call them...if you have a substitute word, I will gladly use that one instead though:-)
Users, customers, buyers... take your pick.
Calling somebody a fanboy only tells others that your argument is based on subjective prejudices.
Yes, I know you can upgrade some Macs, but there is no way you can sit there and tell me I can find stuff for it as easily, as cheaply, or with as much of a selection.
I would just be upgrading the apple hardware I didn't want with more apple hardware.
Please provide specific examples. As a Mac user, I do not know what you are talking about.
In my experience, all that external mom-n-pop-shop hardware works better on Macs than on PCs.
No, the gamecube was low-end. If you compare the vast majority of titles for both systems, the PS2 had better graphics.
Uh... No, it didn't? Even most cross-platform games - which, as you said, were most likely optimized the most on the PS2 - quite simply looked better on the Cube.
There's no reason anyone would need external justifications for liking Excite Truck. It was an awesome game, and I kept coming back to it for about three times as long as I played Motorstorm.
I think you should give the Wii a chance. As a 27 year old male who often games with his pals (26-40 years old), the Wii is definitely the most popular console. Too kiddy? Only if you need to impress your school pals with your violent games. And even then, you'll soon get Manhunt II:-)
Where's the fighting games? Where's King of Fighters? How about some shooters, Ikaruga 2 anyone? (...) I want some something I can't beat on the first or even 10th try.
Since you already have a Wii: Virtual Console. It's even going to get Neo Geo games, so KoF is a possibility.
Isn't it ironic... don't you think. It's like hardcore games, on your Wiiiii...
For me, it's not just time but also your attidue toward gaming in general. Do you see it as a way to unwind and relax, or do you take it seriously like Jeremy from Pure Pwnage?
So you can only be a hardcore gamer if you hate Mario?
A hardcore gamer is somebody who has gaming as a main hobby, games a whole freaking lot, and plays all the games he wants to, not only those that make him look cool in the eyes of his peers.
Online multiplayer games are really quite different from local multiplayer games. It's a different kind of socializing. I prefer to have a bunch of friends over and play against them while they're sitting in the same room. Online multiplayer is often not a whole lot more than single player gaming with really intelligent AI which constantly swears at you.
Final Fantasy VII came out in 1997, three years after the release of the Playstation. By that time, the war was already pretty much decided. Final Fantasy games are incredibly important and move tons of consoles, but I don't think they are "king makers." It's just that Square usually released them on the most successful console.
plus the later of Square's Nintendo Game Cube titles really sucked ass. They should stick to the high end and make those awesome graphics, not like their game play is getting any more original.
Uh... the Gamecube was the high end compared to the PS2. Maybe they should continue their PS2 tradition and stick to the low end if that worked so well?
Ah, okay. I did not mean to imply that Muslims never attacked Europe. The original point was that the Europeans were not the sole aggressors in the Crusades. Anonymous Coward wrote: "All sides in the Crusades were brutal. I hope they don't take the politically correct move by depicting the Europeans as the sole aggressors."
I was disputing that a game like this should show the Muslims as aggressors in the context of the Crusades; not that the muslims never attacked Europe.
I agree. I read the article yesterday, and some of the author's explanations make no sense at all. I mean, none. It's basically incoherent rambling, leaving the reader more confused about the events than before - even if he knew what the author was talking about.
It is possible that Apple will screw up on texting, but I don't think it will impact the iPhone's sales much.
You think wrong. No texting == dead in Europe.
All the people I know use their phones mainly for writing SMS messages. Making phone calls is the secondary feature, not the primary feature. I write and receive at least 10-20 sms per day. I make at most a phone call per day.
If Apple screws up text entry, the iPhone is dead over here.
Not that I worry. The people who've already tried an iPhone say it works at about as well as cell phones with real qerty keyboards.
HFS+ has case-sensitity as an option, so if you want to, you can have a case-sensitive Mac.
Case-sensitivity is a stupid idea for regular users and will never be on by default on Macs (there's no reason why "My Letter to Aunt Emma" should be a different file from "My letter to Aunt Emma")
I am hoping that this game will help some Westerners have a more positive view of Islam.
And I think this is a much-needed thing. I live in Europe, and many of my friends are muslims, so I usually don't experience too much anti-muslim behaviour, or anti-muslim opinions. But whenever there's something on Slashdot that even remotely touches on the topic, I read dozens and dozens of misinformed, hate-filled anti-muslim posts. It's sad how much hatred some people seem to have against Islam - something they obviuosly have no clue about, other than "these are the guys who kill us on TV!"
Possible. Pre DS and Wii, Nintendo was failing in the US, and even now, Japan seems to be unhappy with how the US is developing, compared to the other two large markets...
It's not aimed at hardcore gamers. It's for casual gamers, and it's perfect for them. Easily worth 60 bucks - they probably get more playtime out of it than we get out of most hardcore games.
Dunno about China, Japan and Argentina, but hand guns are not banned in Germany.

Step 1. Choose the case.
Step 2: Put your junk in that case
Step 3: Get her to open the case
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit!

Umayyad conquest of Hispania: 711-718
First Crusade: 1096-1099
How is that connected to the Crusades?

Apple already does support HFS+ (case sensitive and case insensitive) and UFS as bootable file systems.
No, no and no.
Please elaborate. I don't remember ever hearing that Saladin came to Europe and killed the Christians there.

People seem to buy it unbundled just fine.
