Explain to me how a watermark detector is going to prevent someone from setting up a camcorder at the prescreening of a movie and putting it out as a movie clip before the movie even releases? They are trying to find a technical solution to a non-technical problem and trying to overemphasize the existance of this problem that has actually declined over the years.
No, he's just a nutcase... really GNU/Linux? Get off it! His stupid bit with that has become worse than the whole pronunciation arguments that used to go on. Who cares really? Shouldn't it be enough that people are really starting to get behind open source whether it's GNU, Linux, or BSD? They all benefit one another.
If he wants to keep getting public attention so bad, then maybe he should really contribute something useful rather than trying to start stupid semantic wars.
Comming soon! Chairs with broadcaster controlled harnesses to strap you in during those commercial breaks! We can't have those thieving viewers trying to get a snack or go to the bathroom during a commercial now can we?
Sure, this sounds harmless enough but imagine what happens when they figure out they can do this to the human brain too. It doesn't even have to be all that elaborate, just a small amount of pain induced at the neurological level. But nobody would ever do that to a human right?
Clones... they are *really* people right? I mean I paid this guy to clone me, so I own that clone right? I bought IT therefore I own IT. IT should serve me and do what I tell IT to. I can't call it a slave, that's not politically correct so I'll just call it "property". This is just what I'll need to control my property.
Hmm... but what will we be buying things like this with? We're not far away from having these nifty chips implanted in our hands. Sure, they can track our medical information, our banking information, our current location through gps. If the government makes them *required* and assigns a unique id to them, they can make us all more secure right?
And then they get this crazy idea that we are their property, and they can control us just like we controlled other people, just like rats in a maze. Ok, I know this sounds like crazy talk but look at where this is headed folks. Next time someone asks you what's wrong with this, or human cloning, or gps chip implants? It's the same thing that is wrong with slavery... human beings are not property and should not be treated as such.
Not dangerous? HA! You just wait until you see someone driving down the road talking on the cell phone in one hand, holding a cigarette in the other, listening to XM-radio, reading the newspaper sitting on the steering wheel and playing Q3 on their PDA being projected onto their retina!
Seriously though, this is just going to become another one of those things that you cuss at people for trying to do while they drive.
Maybe you've already thought about this, but I think it would be really nice if you added a feature to slash where you could do one simple action on the admin side that would do all or most of these optimizations for you. Then if you (or anyone else running slash) ever sees a situation that generates so much traffic again (hopefully in better circumstances) then it will be easier to deal with.
What is scientific creationism? I believe in creationism, but not because of scientific evidence. The things I believe are based on this thing called faith... a concept that is central to Christianity. If God provided us with hard evidence of these facts, where would faith be? Meaningful belief must come from believing that which cannot be proved. And regardless of this person's opinion, this human genome "evidence" does not prove anything about evolution. Don't throw away your Bibles yet kids.
Fortunately, I'm not at a job where I'm on call anymore, but I used to work for a hospital as a Network Manager, and we had "On Call Pay" there. I was salary aside from that, and the way it worked was that I got $0.82/hour for every hour that was not a "normal business hour". So, since I was salary, it's assumed that I'm being paid my normal pay for being there 8-5 monday-friday (don't I wish it were that little). So they total up the number of hours NOT included in that time and multiply by.82 = additional on call pay. I was the only Network person, so I always got it, but the PC techs switched off from week to week, and whoever had the pager, got the pay for that week.
Hope this helps!
So this means we can hunt endangered species now right?
