    Volcanism. With global warming, the melting of the polar ice will result in a major redistribution of mass. The planet will want to conserve angular momentum. Something will have to give.

    It might not happen for over a thousand years, but a volcanically induced global winter could certainly be the result of global warming.

    No one said it is the Telco's job to defend the constitution.

    But, since it is not clear that the Telcos followed FISA to the letter, and it is not clear that the bush administration even applied for warrants, even after the fact (within the 72 hours), the law suits are not frivolous.

    I share your sentiments, in spite of the fact that you apparently had a bad day. Yes, the tools are there, but don't assume that they are not being used. And don't listen to the naysayers saying it can't be done. It is being done. One hop at a time. Keep your modems happy.

    Well, you could setup a system with sftp, one-time login/password to access the document in question, log when the document was accessed, but even so, access does not prove that it was read.

    At first it was 1 atom wide, 1 atom deep, and 10 atoms high, but it kept falling over into two dimensions.

    Since it can fall over and loses all thickness, they expect to layer an infinite amount onto a chip, which the marketing people are excited about.

    No, there is prior art. To wit, RIAA. The scenario you decribed is exactly what they have been doing. Most of the defendants either give in and pay the extortion fee, and the ones that don't, RIAA backs off. But, RIAA does not want to pay the legal costs of the defendants when they back off.

    So, currently, it's a very effective extortion racket.
