I'm am running 2.6.10 with patches. I just don't
want to have to chase patches down. It is *stable*
in regards to not crashing, but the Linus kernel
didn't have all of the patches I want/need. It
will get there no doubt, it's just a bigger effort
than it was with the 2.4 series. So hopefully,
with the new approach, the key critical patches
will get into the base kernel sooner. As I said,
the key is the discipline, so that base kernel
gets to be a stable as possible without breaking
things.
Perhaps I am being too harsh on blaming the kernel,
when many of the problems I've encountered
are really userland compatibility problems.
Not that those are unexpected, since 2.6 does
have a lot of changes over 2.4.
Basically, I want to be able to grab the source,
make oldconfig, and go and not have to spend
too many hours getting it up and running.
I've not had real good luck with that yet.
The key is to make sure that the patches
for the.y version are clean and really
make sense from a stability standpoint *ONLY*.
New functionality does not belong here.
Right now, I consider 2.6 not stable enough
for my own use. If I cannot compile and boot
a Linus kernel on a simple install of GNU/Linux
(whether SuSE or Debian) without major headaches
and/or chasing down patches, well, that's not
stable enough for me. YMMV.
Back in 2.4, I wasn't really happy until 2.4.18, and with all of the changes in 2.6,
I won't be surprised to see it meet my definition
of stable until 2.6.20 at the current pace.
So, I'm hoping that this new approach
will really help.
Well, if they try to regulate Blogs in the U.S.,
then the only hope for the future of the planet
will be Blogs *outside* of the U.S., as the
current administration is totally of the 'hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil' mindset.
Except this seems to be just the opposite where
the supremes ruled that judges could not sentence
convicted murderers, that the sentence must be
handed down by a jury.
Here, the judge is reducing the sentence written
in the law in spite of the fact that one of the convicted is
the judges brother!.
Wouldn't you expect a judge to recuse themselves
in such a case?
Hmmm. Your apparent symptoms do not match mine.
In all three cases for me (Mozilla on GNU/Linux),
they are DNS not found. So, maybe they changed it
already or your browser gave the appearance that
it was trying to load something.
What browser and platform did you use?
(I'm betting IE on Windows)
Discouraged workers - those who want a job but have given up looking and therefore do not fall within the definition of the labor force. These persons tend to make the reported unemployment rate lower than it otherwise would be.
That's BS. GPP is correct. After your benefits run
out (multiples of 6 months), you are considered to no longer be actively
looking for a job. Therefore, the percentage drops
and appears more politically correct.
I envisioned this design long ago. Here's a possible
issue they may have to deal with: Lightning.
Beside the fact that the tower is tall, the
design can also lead to creating it's own thunderstorms.
Because the track record of upholding the constitution has not been solid over the last 30 years.
Why do they waste taxpayer money on this?
Because the taxpayers don't have any control over government spending any more.

Try booting up Knoppix or Kanotix and see if the problem disappears or the boot messages complain about ACPI.
More info here.
Just like Dubya does it.
Why do you think MS is trying to force the software patents issue thru the EU?

Basically, problems are found that need to be fixed before new functionality that is in an RC has really been tested.
If you want a stable kernel that you don't have time to mess with every week, then stick to the 2.4.x series.

Here's a free calendar program you may want to check out.
I have to argue about the first one above (HTTP Tunneling). Just because you tunnel traffic does not mean that it is encrypted.
Near the bottom is:
Discouraged workers - those who want a job but have given up looking and therefore do not fall within the definition of the labor force. These persons tend to make the reported unemployment rate lower than it otherwise would be.

At this point in history, the Judicial branch is the only hope.

But the point is, he did not have a crash.
Stop spewing FUD.
How is a user going to be able to download the update that removes the update check?
You can observe this yourself. Check out the night view, and note the nearly round voids out there. You don't even need a telescope.
This makes it too easy for spyware. I would not use this technology if you want your privacy.
Mod PP Funny.
