What I don't get is why is macrovision and all these companies responding to Jobs. If its one thing corporate executives were taught a LONG time ago. Paying attention to criticisms of your company (if you don't plan on changing) will only hurt you.
Well given diabilities deserve special accomidations. There is no reason IBM couldn't have just shut off of heavily filtered his internet especially if he was having trouble controlling himself and asked for help.
Trend continues. Thats like saying people have been using more 120W bulbs than when they used to use 60W bulbs, if this trend continues everyone will be using 500W bulbs by 2015.
Yea as computing has gotten cheaper and people are using more of it, but thats because the relative cost of powering them have remained cheap. Don't expect the trend to continue once it becomes expensive compared to other things.
Yea, but the concern isn't the last mile anyways. With the last mile, you get what you pay for bandwidth wise. The concern is the trunks, in that market there is more competition and providers buy from other providers, its very commodity based.
Sure we have traffic jams, but the economics to scale roads (which is very expensive, even on a per car level) is completely different than the economics to scale bandwidth. You know that and are just being argumentative I suspect.
Well the way this guy built it yes. Though if you build it like normal transisters IE, you build a normal AND gate using the pressure from one water source to open a valve to let the other source through, and OR gate using just two water sources together. A NOT gate from using an inverted AND gate (meaning you have a constant expected water source and the pressure from the input turns the water off). But such a system would require a lot of energy to drive the pumps. So.. You aren't really achieving much.
Either way they are issuing a supeana.. Meaning if she exist she will be forced to appear in court soon. And then this whole thing will be laid to rest.. End of story..
Either way its the perfect market. If bandwidth started truly running in short supply a little thing called supply and demand would kick in QUICKLY. ISPs getting complaints from users would implement higher caps or simply start charging more per speed rating. People would then either cut back or they would pay more. That extra payment then could be used to expand the network or the telcos could pocket it. The telcos that just pocket it would then start to lose customers. And the whole thing just goes in circles.. So whats the question again?????
Interesting point, though arguing that hurting their profits forces them to increase prices ignores the fact that they are always out to increase profits meaning they have set prices at a premium of profit margin, if raising prices will increase their profit they would have already done so, same goes for lowering pay. Only thing that really gets effected is the overall company worth. Now if the company goes bankrupt yes then it can hurt the little guy. Though I'm not talking Enron style fraud here either, and I stated multiple times I have not and would not cheat a company, I'm simply stating that the moral imperatives such as making sure you tip properly and making sure the full bill is being charged when visiting a restaurant is different than dealing with a large corporation. When you deal with a large corporation you are playing a money game, you wouldn't give the guy across the poker table his money back because he screwed up (assuming neither of you cheated) now would you? If he was broke and lost every cent maybe.
On a totally different tangent with the fiat system we work with today on large scales money has no real value, its just points in a game.
People? Whats this people you refer to? All I see is a pot of gambling money and a system in place for investing in the pot, taking out its rewards. I'm not saying you should do ANYTHING illegal, but if a player in the game messes up and gives the horses a part of the pot I say take it.
But seriously.. I've never once "cheated" any company, just arguing that its not neccessarily wrong to do so because they are soulless games, not people.
I totally agree, and yet I also agree with the next poster. It has become dog eat dog. While at a restaurant I would definitely want to be honest, simply because this could come out of the waiters pay. When it comes to large corporations I have been screwed by them numerous times and been treated like dirty. These corporations show absolutely NO morality when dealing with their customers, specially when it comes to hidden fees are other crap charges... Yea you try screwing up your bank account one month and see if they feel any remorse about taking $400 of your hard earned money in fees..
I see corporations as non entities, feel cheating them is about the same as cheating at a computer game. Though I wouldn't break any laws to cheat them, I don't feel sorry for them either.
Well when you click on a product on a website you are not agreeing to buy. The only point in which you agree to buy is AFTER you have entered your CC number and you see a final total and you hit the submit/I agree/whatever button.
I always thought that doubling your energy at near relativistic speeds puts you halfway between the speed you were going and lightspeed. Which of course means you will never get there you just keep getting half way there. Oh well I've been wrong before:)
Everyone seems to ignore the fact that he was releasing the episodes weeks before broadcast. Meaning he wasn't just breaking copyright, but trade secret and probably contract requirements as well.
Hmm, good point. If there only was a way for force a user to say. Yea.. this is what I wanted.. But alas... If you implemented search as a sidebar or something that was more integrated into the browser this would probably be easy.
You know, if what they are looking for is "what the average community perfers" Why don't they just implement a decent search engine, even better if they can just use googles. And then record clicks. If a result gets more clicks put it farther to the top. Only problem with this is it puts a barrier to new guys getting in. So maybe add some randomization to put non favorites towards the top but make sure the top 8 or so get on the front page no matter what.
No thats not what I was saying at all, my meaning of neccessary is when all other avenues have failed. Generally only violence for violence, though one could consider examples of populus uprising like the American Revolutionary war, it wasn't really in resonce to violence exactly, but it was probably neccessary.
You know.. I didn't have quicktime installed on this computer so the first thing I got when I clicked on your link was a installer confirmation popup.. Much funnier than the video itself.
Sorry if my post was misinterpreted. I wasn't seriously suggesting we go shoot at RIAA members or saying we should be violent. I'm just saying that many people think no one should have weapons to protect themselves and think that people who do are barbaric. Of course the court system or the ballot box is the best way to deal with. But sometimes.. rarely.. people have to take up arms.
Funny thing about modern civilization, we have traded dueling at dawn and other acts of violence over squabbles with lawyers and the court system. In most cases this is good. But there are times when violence is necessary, and Americans have not only forgotten this but view anyone who disagrees as barbaric.
iTunes also tells you the track information for MP3s that weren't purchased from iTunes. To do this it compares against the CDDB.

Umm, yea they were fed human levels of saccharin.
In other news rats are much smaller than you are.

Article stated there was no notification and that it was simply discovered in the Ship. I got a nice Wii message from Nintendo telling me about this.

Where's Erin Brockovich when we need her?
But seriously thats how these things SHOULD work, lawyers getting a few millions sure, but people actually getting what they deserve as well.
