You are totally right, slavery is the best thing for any economy. Granted only the rich slave masters benefit... but that's no reason to not allow slavery now is it?
You are totally right, H1-B is the best thing for any economy. Granted only the rich H1-B holders benefit... but that's no reason to not allow H1-B's now is it?
Hey Carlos you're a racist. That's right, your skin is brown, and you're a racist. It is possible you know.
Let's examine my claim above.
Here is what you said: So the american workers actually deserve to be paid more than foreign workers? Funny... Do you check the nationality of the authors of the software that you run?
Above you imply that I'm a racist/nationilist who thinks that foreign workers don't deserve to be paid what they have rightly earned.
Now here is what I actually said: Excuse me, the US was NOT screaming out for every engineer it could lay it's hands on. Large companies who didn't want to pay the wages their American workers deserved (and hence could ask for) were the only ones asking for H1-B visas. I garuntee Joe Citizen was not.
What I say above is that American workers, in the US economy, have highly valued skills that they spent the time to aquire and hence deserve to be compensated fully. Meanwhile US companies don't want to pay the proper compensation, so instead they import "cheap labor" (ie, foreigners) Why are foreigners cheap labor? Because in comparison to the country they came from the money they are offered for the job here sounds pretty damn good. Even if the money they are offered is actually crap.
Who wins? Not the American, not the foreigner, just the corporation.
No let's go back to my claim that you are a brown skinned racist Carlos.
What was my original claim? What did you accuse me of? Aren't they worlds apart? I think so. You owe me an apology, and you owe yourself an education.
and I resent the lazy-assed, napping at their desk fellow americans bitching about having to work harder to earn a living...
Hey there you 700 club retreard. I hate to be the one to break it to you but American workers are the most productive in the world. That's right, we produce more, and hence should be able to ask for more in wages.
So stop listening to your conservative talk show host (ie, Pigboy, or a Pat) telling you that Americans workers don't have any "work ethic" because it's not true. Stastical numbering (yes that's right, MATH, a cold science) says that we produce more for the money we're given than any other worker on the planet. Americans DESERVE the money they get.
I just read an article in last months Scientific American decrying the falling rate that unversities are turning out scientists and engineers.
Gosh that fall out rate couldn't have anything to do with the fact that American Tech Companies (the leader in world wide tech) aren't giving pay raises, aren't hiring, and are basically telling their engineers to go F-themselves because their going to hire undertrained foreigners to come in and take the positions for a lot less money.
How long do the tech companies think foreigners are going to keep trying to come here when they won't get paid sheeeit?!?
Now that times are harder they think they have the right to the jobs of the people who would work for us???
Yes. Every country on this planet has a self protective visa scheme EXCEPT the United States. I'm sure I'll sound like a loonie when I say that the US political system is wholly owned by the rich, but clearly it is our all those H1-B visa holders would be on a boat back to wherever.
This type of activity is pretty clueless. Two years ago the US was screaming out for every engineer it go lay its hands on.
Excuse me, the US was NOT screaming out for every engineer it could lay it's hands on. Large companies who didn't want to pay the wages their American workers deserved (and hence could ask for) were the only ones asking for H1-B visas. I garuntee Joe Citizen was not.
As long as their is competent, skilled, cheap labor outside of the country, why should people hire you?
The problem is that outsourcing to places like India often leaves you with less competent engineers. Sure, there are great Indian engineers... but generally they are just as good as the "cheap labor" title implies.
Isn't it about time we (meaning intelligent americans) put together a liberties and freedoms checklist, comparing the US and other countries, to put an end to this mindless liberal blathering?
I encourage you to do that. Make sure that the other countries and liberals get a voice though in what is included on that list. What you think is a civil right, and what they think is a civil right may not mesh.
The TIPS webpage hosted by the US Justice Department is up and running at http://www.citizencorps.gov/tips.html
For those of you who don't recall, TIPS is the website where we report our neighbors, friends, coworkers, and that suspicious looking fellar in the corner as communists... err I mean terrorists.
I quote from the website: "A national system for concerned workers to report suspicious activity." THANK GOD! It's about time!
McCarthy... err, I mean John Ashcroft has been working hard to get millions of Americans to report communists... err I mean terrorists. That's right, it's the neighborhood watch for Russians... err I mean Islamists.
You too can participate!! Aren't you happy!? (If not, e-mail me so I can report you.) That's right folks, just click that link above and report away! Your Grandma could be one! Your brother! Your Neighbor! YOUR DOG FOR GODS SAKE!! Who knows, in no time you could be called into court to point out the witches... err... I mean communists... no... sorry, I mean terrorists! Just think of all you can be doing to help America be strong!
GOD (NOT ALLAH, BUDDHA, ZUES, SHIVA, OR ATHIESTS) BLESS AMERICA!!!!
PS: Visitors to the site will be monitored for their own security.
The U.S. Justice Department has unleashed it's newest anti-terrorism initiative called TIPS. The programs webpage has the quote: "A national system for concerned workers to report suspicious activity." The ACLU today sent out a press release detailing the dangers of the TIPS program. Among which is turning private sector companies into a domestic spy service. Will your ISP report you for visiting the wrong sites? One citizen has already posted his obviously tongue in cheek support for the TIPS program.
The program operates by asking everyday citizens to join Citizen Corp's TIPS program and than report suspicious activities via a form on the webpage.
Gosh it's hard to imagine a company which works so hard to please the Christian Right here in the USA would be able to find similarities in the Islamic Right.
I know... I know... it's just crazy to think that the Christian Right and the Islamic Right hold very similar view points on opression.
Bring your own CD player in and plug the Audio jacks that go to the speakers into that instead. Viola, problem solved, countless hours of hacking saved.
The only reason India is a superpower is because they have 4 times as many people as the US to throw at every problem that comes up. If it were a one to one comparison the Indian workforce would come up short everytime.
They live in brick houses, much more solid than the particleboard panels used in most homes in the USA.
And yet those particle board panels last our entire lifetimes. Not to mention particle board panels are safer than bricks in California (earthquake country).
Because they refuse to utilize the shelter they have been offered. It's not our fault they are homeless. It's not our responsibility to hand hold them through life. I have my own life to worry about.
You're kidding right? The reason you give out condoms to IV drug users is so that they don't infect NON IV drug users who they sleep with. Yes that's right you may not even know you've slept with an IV drug user... until you test HIV+. Just because a person is an IV drug user doesn't mean they LOOK like they are.
Many of you seem to have forgotten this very important fact: Computers need RELIABLE electricity.
Most of the people in the world do NOT have electricity flowing into their home/village. If they do have it than the electricity is not reliable (outtages, surges, brownouts, etc...)
This just won't work until these socities evolve to the point where they can support the computers with a solid infrastructure
Ah yes... a computer is going to fix the problems of a 3000 year old society that is floundering and unable to pull anybody out of poverty even though they've had 3000 years to do it. Aren't you all being just a little bit blind?
We are talking about countries and societies that absolutely REFUSE to take the steps neccessary to increase living standards. America has created a super power within 200 years. INDIA has had 3000 years, and yet can't seem to do anything besides create densly populated shanty villages.
Okay. so this person doesn't have Food, Shelter, or Medicine but they have an electric socket in the wall of their cardboard shanty to plug a computer into?
You're kidding right? This buisiness model was a VERY stupid idea. A point of a buisiness is to make money. You cannot make money off of people who do not have any money, or the ability to generate any money.
You're kidding right? The Indians don't have a knack for programming anymore than anybody else. In fact, I'd say generally their code is substandard. In India though you can throw 20 coders at a problem for the price of one American Software Engineer. There in lies the benefit of hiring Indians in India.
Why should we feed the poor? In a matter of a couple hundred years America managed to transform the wilderness into a land with enough food to feed it's people (and then some). But why should we sell food for less than it costs to make? We should we give it away to free? These starving societies have been around for hundreds, or thousands of years longer than us and yet still find themselves starving?!
This may sound like a troll, but it's not meant to be: Perhaps we should let them die. Obviously their culture has some major defects and it would be far better for them to die and give up their lands to those who would be productive with the land than to allow their lands to continue to be under utilized.
I work in a conference room full of Indians, the one american who works in there with me naps like clock-work after lunch for 30 minutes or so...
Oh yes, the conservative "one person=everybody" example. I love when conservatives use that one.
Hate to break it to you... but an example of ONE is not a statistical realiable sample.
You are totally right, slavery is the best thing for any economy. Granted only the rich slave masters benefit... but that's no reason to not allow slavery now is it?

Sounds like your company is very badly violating the good faith of the H1-B visas.

After all, the US is a free country. *
It may not be free beer (no EU-style social safety net), but you have all the opportunity that you can make for yourself.**
* Does not apply to Jose Padilla
** Void if you are not a millionaire's son.

By the way, don't get me wrong... I love India. What it lacks in monetary wealth it makes up for in spritual and philosophical wealth.
LOL.
