  3. Re:Why is this controversial? on Amazon Drops California Associates to Avoid Sales Tax · · Score: 1

that's not what they are talking about . they want CA residents to collect sales tax from ALL buyers no matter if they reside in the state of CA or not. when in fact .. the onus is on the buyer to pay sales tax to their local state government. Just because you bought it online and didn't pay sales tax doesn't mean you are not required to pay it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23351894/ns/business-personal_finance/t/states-crack-down-tax-free-online-purchases/

Let them compete on an equal footing with the locals, and each will win their fair market share based on price, product, and service.

How is there competition when what I want to buy is not available locally? i.e. electronic components, some hat my wife wants, or better yet .. something is out of print or outdated, or heaven forbid ... out of season. The only places you can get these types of things in the internet, and in my experience 8 times out 10 amazon is the cheapest.

  6. Re:Coding is for foriegn nationals, not US workers on Ask Slashdot: Stepping Sideways Into Programming? · · Score: 1

I have repeatedly tried to send our coding offshore. I have to say that the dozen or so times that we tried, it has always turned out bad. We ended up having to do all the work over again or for the first time (because they just didn't do it.) I'm saying all experiences are this way .. we have just not had the luck of finding a quality coding house that could produce what we asked for in a timely fashion. And we tried everything from the $3.00 / hour to the $25.00 /per hour houses all with very similar results. In my experiences, someone who can code , and it at your place while doing it, is worth a few dollars more per hour.

it looks like in the article is says they will throttle bandwidth and/or limit your web access until the file sharing stops. it also says that these would be for the most grievous offenders. I'm not siding with the agreement .. i really think is stinks, I'm just sayin. My biggest complaint is that my service cost is going to go up because of this.

  11. Re:Delete it all on Ask Slashdot: How Do I Scrub Pirated Music From My Collection? · · Score: 1

All your music is pirated. The copyright holders did not give you permission to rip it from CD, or store it online.

In the UK copyright law does not even allow recording TV shows to watch later, it is merely tolerated. You might be able to argue fair use in the US, except that now you don't buy music or CDs, you buy a license to listen which does not include uses such as this.

you are absolutely right. this is from a few years ago. but the RIAA website still claims the same information http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2007/10/sony-bmgs-chief-anti-piracy-lawyer-copying-music-you-own-is-stealing.ars ""When an individual makes a copy of a song for himself, I suppose we can say he stole a song." Making "a copy" of a purchased song is just "a nice way of saying 'steals just one copy'," she said. "

  12. too many companies do this on Dropbox Password Goof Let Any Password Work For 4 Hours · · Score: 1

I have been involved with the installation of a lot of software over the years. Over the last few years, 3 or 4 maybe, I've seen this type of thing more and more. It doesn't seem like anyone properly tests anything anymore. They just push it out the door and hope that no one complains. I wish these companies would stop buying everyone $5000 macs to code on and put that money to better use hiring actual software testers. YOU CANNOT ACCURATELY PROOF YOUR OWN WRITING! this goes for coding to.
