OK, wait a second. Let's assume for the sake of argument that swapping is ethical. Why are you blaming people who engage in ethical conduct for the government's subsequent unethical conduct? I'll spare you a Godwin-invoking analogy.
You may be the only person... I've been trying to buy one for the past 6 months and have been unable to since I don't want to wait 6 months for delivery or pay $10,000 over sticker...
Let's hope that Pentium IV will not follow suit in the same manner, or I see the days of Intel as a player in the processor area as counted indeed.
Man, this guy is great. Every article he ever posts predicts the fall of Intel. I mean, one of these days Intel probably will either go out of business or someone will overtake them in the desktop processor market and the good Dr. will be there going "You know sonny, I predicted this way baaaaaack in 1997. and 1998. and 1999."
He should go back to giving ID advice on how to run their own benchmarking utilities like he did when Quake 3 was in beta....
Just looking around my cube, I am prepared to offer:
17 empty altoids containers 1 broken Palm III hot sync base The O'Reilly Java in a Nutshell, Java Enterprise in a Nutshell, and Java Examples in a Nutshell books A really nice slick PT Cruiser ad A worn out ping pong paddle A slightly stained coffee mug And $32.67...
That should make me the high bidder... Let me know if you are interested guys...
1) Well, there is always Ebay guys... I can see it now.. system of barely used LEO satellites... going out of business, everything must go....
2) If they have any sort of manuveurability, I mean, hell, if you work for them you are obviously going to be out of work soon, so you could, you know, aim at stuff when you "de-orbit" couldn't you?
If you are right, and I don't think there is a chance in hell that you are, then the law will (and should be) changed.
Failing that, music distributors simply need to implement the same sort of EULA agreements that the software industry are so enamoured with. Instead of just buying a cd at a store, you get your cd and sign a contract at the register stating that you will not distribute the music contained on the disk, and specifing the penalties for doing so (say, $25,000 per violation). This nice bit about this is it removes the issue from the messy arena of copyright law, to just another contract.
Let's see Dell's or Gateway's market share. Or Compaq, HP, etc. Compare THEM to the rest of the market.
That would almost be a valid argument if you couldn't run the same software on a Compaq as a HP as a Gateway. But you can. If you buy an Apple, your effectively stuck with stuff that runs on MacOS. (With a few nitpicky exceptions)
Oh please, you seriously think I went through all that trouble? Was a sad little pathetic person you must be. Living life thinking that there is this big conspiracy all around out to get you. Tire on your car goes flat -- damn the conspiracy! Milk in the fridge goes sour -- damn the conspiracy! Don't like someones post on/. -- damn the conspiracy!
Oh well, on the upside you will undoubtedly make significant contributions to putting some shrink's kid through college.
I'm using ad hominem attacks becuase you keep perpetuating a bunch of bullshit. Yes, corporations have a fiduciary duty, but there are no instances in the law stating that corporations must take every opportunity to make money. Furthermore, they cannot be "acting illegally" since cases involving management misconduct are civil, not crimial cases. If you can find some cases which contradict me, please feel free to post the appropriate citations, otherwise, I still content... you are full of shit.
Let see, you have a problem, a solution is offered, and you bitch and moan about it.. wah, its too much work.
Damn, I wish/. would implement killfiles.

I wish people would quit repeating this lie. You obviously don't know what the hell you are talking about. Please cite the law that states that corporations have a duty to make money by whatever means are necessary (your emphasis, not mine).
Obviously you can't becuase there is no such law and you a full of shit.
nVidia also "wants" reviewers to focus on speed instead of quality now - and encourages them to benchmark FSAA, because nVidia's approach is faster (and less good-looking) than 3dfx's.
In your opinion.
nVidia has gotten used to playing a little bit dirty - that's how they managed to overthrow 3dfx.
No, they managed to overthrow 3dfx by (shock) actually producing a better product and not just throwing out the nth rev of the voodoo chip.

All reviews (all pieces of writing, period.) are biased in one direction or another. This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone over the age of 12.
Let me guess, you one of those people who blew a ton of cash on an inferior VooDoo card and now your bitter...
And now we see the loss of a beloved member of the Free Software movement. And, in the tradition of bad situations bringing out the best in a community, we see the same spirit of brotherhood and comeraderie brought forth in a display of love.
yeah, when I worked for a closed source software development company, when someone died there would just be a new person sitting in that guys desk the next day, and we were never supposed to ask any questions or anything or mention the dead persons name again. I guess free software is better...
ACs are very important to discussions. There are several times ACs have made insightful and informative posts that they wouldn't have otherwise made because they didn't want to reveal their identity, suffer the potential damage to karma, etc.
Bullshit. Someone posts this lame excuse every time the topic comes up. Come on, go through the exstensive/. archives and find 5 examples of posts that fit those criteria. You know what? You can't becuase they don't exist. ACs are for trolls and the disruptive.
Thirdly, it means all the people downloading MP3 songs can get really pissed off. And then they can send emails to their members of Congress and Senators.
How is this.. feel free to use it if you find it useful.
Dear Congressperson,
I'm not voting for you anymore becuase the court system is making it harder for me to steal music. How dare they! I thought as an tax paying American I had the right to steal as much music as I wanted to. I'm sorry to find out I was wrong. Please do something about this travesty of justice.
It's sad to see how Napster (the company) has corrupted this idea, and turned it into nothing more than a hypocritical attempt to steal profits from the recording industry.
What are you talking about? Napster has always been about stealing from the record industry. Given that Napster has never made a dime, there are no profits to move from the recording industry to Napster.
Is anyone really shocked by this? I mean, all they have is their technology and their brand, they aren't going to give either one of those away, or let someone steal, er, share them.
OK, wait a second. Let's assume for the sake of argument that swapping is ethical. Why are you blaming people who engage in ethical conduct for the government's subsequent unethical conduct? I'll spare you a Godwin-invoking analogy.
Since when is stealing music and files ethical?
Very offtopic...

. Any motherboard that has not got the special micro code update for this very processor will ultimately fail.
Oh, cry me a river, I can't run my P3 on my old LX motherboard either...

Ah, having to d/l components from all over the web, just to get a stable web browser.
This is what Linux users mean by "easy to use".

I'm sure that the Debian developers would be glad to send it to the proper place where it should go: The Free Software Foundation.
Oh, silly me, I thought you were going to say the Muscular Dystrophy Association. But of course, the free software jihad must come first...

Actually if /. is going to emulate K5 they should start by banning ACs.

I love this idea. I only wish the Republicans were clever enough to have though of it.

So if they have all this great technology and it works so well, why does Carnivore exist?
