A couple of days ago, in this very messaging board, somebody proposed a brilliant idea: instead of something useless like SETI or cracking RC5, one could dedicate those cycles to analysing satellite data that could help farmers plan crops. Truly wonderful. Sad thing, though, is that in a tech world like the one we have, "sexy" useless projects like SETI demand all the attention, while worthwhile causes like the latter languish. Truly sickening.

Hey, if its such a great idea, go ahead, start it up and waste your idle CPU cycles on it.

Me, I'm going to use my idle CPU cycles on them there flying toasters...

    Ah, the traditional luddite post..

Doesn't anyone else think that this PDA craze is getting out of hand? Sure, it's neat to have information in a small, portable form, but do we want to be "connected" 24/7? Don't we want the ability to take a vacation instead of spending our week in Hawaii sending memos to the boss on our shiny new PDA while talking on a cellphone, waiting for our beeper to ring, and coding on a laptop?

Well, here is an idea. Don't fucking buy one if you don't want one. Don't make the rest of us suffer because you want to fucking rub to sticks together to make a fire, while the rest of us are more than happy to use a zippo.

  7. Time frame on LucasArts and BioWare to Develop New Star Wars RPG · · Score: 1

Pretty cool stuff - the setting of the game is going to be prior to the Star Wars movies. I don't know whether that means prior to Episode I or Episode IV, but the real-world ship date is supposed to be 2002. So, donna hold your breath.

According to a story I read on Blues News the game takes place 4000 years before Episode IV (or for the very pedantic 3970ish years before Episode I)
