Why would Gnome become more proprietary? None of the major player in Mono dev have much, if any, influence in Gnome dev. See ciroknight's comment above (http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1476258&cid=30414952)
I was thinking more of actual predictions (e.g. from peer-reviewed papers) than of media (mis)interpretations of predictions made either more-or-less off the cuff by scientists or by non-scientists.
And the accurate versions of those most of those predictions have not been shown wrong (I don't know anything one way or the other about Perth's prediction).
It has nothing to do with conspiracies and everything to do with science (I support SETI, but I don't believe that aliens have visited Earth or anything. I don't even believe aliens exist, I just believe they might exist).
There isn't any reason there couldn't be aliens out there, and if there are, one of the best ways we know of to find evidence of them is to look for their radio signals (either for their own use, or that they intentionally broadcast in order to be found). SETI ran for many years from Arecibo and then from the Very Large Array. The budget was never that big, and as the amount of data that could be gathered increased and budgets decreased, they came up with SETI@Home as a way to crunch the data without spending $$$ on supercomputers.
It always amazes me how people so often don't seem to realize that modern browsers are really complicated, and modern web pages are really complex and large. It is simply a fact of life that modern, GUI web browsers take a lot of memory. Frankly, given how much I live in the browser, I am happy to give it as much memory as it needs.

Thanks for writing that, saved me the trouble. I don't know where people get these ideas.

>no evidence for accelerated sea level rises
I don't read Dutch, but a google translation makes it look as though that that is one scientist's view and that at least some others their disagree.

>predict warming in a cooling world,
the world is most definitely not cooling, nor even holding steady. Take a look at the data.
I agree, although you might look into a newer microwave, it is supposed to make a big difference.
Definitely better than Lost, and also better than Heros after season 1.
An awful lot of N routers are still shit, either wait or do a lot of research.
yes, 802.11ac
There were no peer reviewed papers in the 70s saying we were headed for an ice age.

Research into global warming has been going on since the 1970s

My stepmom butchered and ate a deer she roadkilled. Even in MT that isn't too common, but it certainly isn't unheard of.
sounds like the gnome people have been talking to the emacs people
Awesome WM also handles multiple monitors well via the keyboard.
Even aliens know that caps lock is CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL!
The OP and my response to it have nothing to do with running SETI@Home at school. It is a discussion of SETI in general.

I'm doing my part!
You mean AdBlock Plus, right?
ABP and Noscript is the best combo.
Noscript really does a better job at blocking flash than flashblock, IMO. You just need to put in some training upfront to make in non-annoying
Or maybe two of three or something. I have good karma and I moderate, but I haven't seen an offer to meta-mod in forever, but I do have that checkbox.
>PulseAudio: the bane of my linux desktop experience !
Works great for me!
Yes, actually:

I second this, although I use Git. Works great.
