It would still be a "reasonably powerful desktop machine" if your use case is still the same as 10 years ago.
Yeah, I was a hard- and software developer 10 years ago, my use case didn't shift too much. OTOH, I happen to/do/ CAD on this nearly 10 year old computer (single-core and all that, can you believe it?), so my information is first-hand.
They're no different than any other airplanes. If other countries decide to use them outside their borders, and threaten U.S. interests, the U.S. can "counsel restraint" in it's usual manner: with drones.
I see no reason why a computer couldn't use visual clues and alternate sensors to detect velocity.. These may have been harder in the past, but certainly possible with today's technology.
Check.
I also see no reason why a computer couldn't visually see broken engines and do an emergency maneuver.

I also see no reason why a computer couldn't learn from the Hudson landing and be able to do similar maneuvers.
No. We are unlikely to see that before someone comes up with strong A.I.
He probably wanted to make sure it's really, really, done. Well-balanced gameplay and all that.
Yes, it is. This is /., home of the logical fallacy.
doesn't even pass the encoding stage
Thanks, this is how i'm gonna teach my (future) kids that Santa isn't real, when the time has come.
Wow. At first you've got two strong-going long-term relationships, 109 minutes later you've married and dumped both.
What a day!
My wife would probably clear the stuff off the floor.
Made my night!
All the 'evil party' has to do is not decrement the TTL. It won't show up in your traceroute then.
The thing with BGP is that there aren't that many sites using it
Hahahaha. What?
Where is that 'rest of the world' anyway?

[meaningless windows-centric gibberish excusing bloatware]
Whatever.
It's still [like] a reasonably powerful desktop machine, if you avoid running a bloated OS on it.
So as soon as i get one of these, i won't need any DRAM anymore, since 128MB is way more than my typical memory footprint (including kernel and X11)
I do look forward to this.

FTFY
Considering you don't get laid either way, I'd say go for the CEO.
...does it even Clippy?
Won't purchase without.
The entire official claimed reason for galileo is better accuracy in europe.
Wrong.
The system will never have reliable or even usable coverage outside the EU unless they massively increased the planned size.
Wrong.
You need about 50 birds for global coverage
Wrong.
and the galileo system is planned for 6 birds.
Wrong.
Other than that, yeah.
Simply put, they don't trust us enough to use our system...
Yep.
and are willing to spend billions of Euros to prove it.
Huh, now it's just about proving it? Think much?
Perhaps, maybe the GPS constellation should become a UN protectorate and no nation should be able to weaponize it... Just sayin'
Yeah, but then, to say it with your own words:
Simply put, they don't trust us
exact
As exact as float, or more exact, like double?
Damn it, this is chicken-egg. What about the first pilot ever?!

Thanks for summarizing the summary.
Well, what would you call it? A news site? Yeah, that sounds about right.
Tell GP ;). Or do you think stuff like "Debian is applied Gentoo"?
Cool. How many smells fit in one cartridge?
Nice to be on top with LFS, right?
Wait.. Oh, Hey, we didn't see you guys all the way over there!
Yours, The BSDs
