    That would be great :) Maybe I'd be able to use C-x C-s to save in word (well, it works now.... but you know what I mean) and be able to M-x ispell-buffer. GNU/EWord 2000

    So they want to make this device illegal because it lets you share the recorded programs. Fine. Why don't they ban the sale of guns since they let you kill people. Are these companies trying to say that sharing TV programs is worse than MURDERING SOMEONE? That money is more important than human life? Wow. I'll have to agree with the first post about faith_in_humanity--; Damn.

    I like how FTOSX is a "RedHat" with a ReiserFS! Ooh! Mommie! I heard a buzzword. I wonder why it's called FT-OSX? Apple should sue them, RedHat should sue them, LinuxPPC should sue them. This has to be the lamest thing I've ever seen. What they hell was Mosfet thinking working for them!? (Sorry, but it looks like a 2 yearold did a google images search for Linux and made up some captions)

    That's only if the hardware decodes the mpeg. If you just play the .vob off the disk you can just take a screenshot like normal. At least you can in MPlayer.

    Yeah, but both were GPL. RMS just didn't like competition :) It's good to have 2 emacses (is that the plural of emacs?), since by competing they both get better faster. Emacs 21 is simply awesome!

    Why is it so important to get Linux accepted on the desktop? I have all the programs that I need, and the Windows lusers (or whatever) have theirs. What's the problem?

    Yes good point. But there are a lot more people that type documents than there are that edit video. So it's a tradeoff.

    Yup. That's what our school does: Linux servers with samba and webmail and stuff for the windows ppl. What I like is that there are 3 ways to get your IMSA homedir mounted locally: SAMBA, AppleTalk, NFS (which they don't let us use *sigh*) . But that's the best way IMO, let the clients use Windows or MacOS and the servers use Linux (and some users like myself).

    Can you point me to comparitive time trials for Un*x vs. Windows at performing common tasks?
    Sure:
    Windows, opening a file: Move mouse to File, Pick Open, keep clicking until you find the file you want. (6 secs to get 2 levels and open)

    UNIX (emacs): ^X^F, type names until they can be completed with , press enter. (2 seconds)
