Just imagine where we would be today if that nonsense had never existed in the first place.

I'd guess that we'd have much more usable software that worked well together and was more secure and efficient, vs. crap that was done just to avoid a ridiculous patent infringement.

I use mini's RSS reader all the time from my blackberry to keep up to date on stuff while sitting around in doctor's offices, car service, etc. Being able to easily make your own 'search engines' from a form on any web site is really nice too. Weather underground, IMDB for example. Google's mobile pages work great (movies, news) too. The killer app for me isn't really the web browser though, but google's calendar sync. And if you have a curve, or something with gps, google maps is a must have app as well.

  7. Except... on GPS Tracking Device Beats Radar Gun in Court · · Score: 1

Most GPS units I've seen aren't terribly accurate with speed and distance. Why? Because when they do those calculations, despite the fact that they have altitude data, they typically don't use it. This will result in a lower than actual speed/distance, as the calculations are based on a flat projection rather than the actual distance travelled.

This becomes really apparent if you compare what a gps says your speed/distance is compared to your dialed-in computer on a bicycle.

    Question:
Does jivetalk have the ability to do a 'one time' buddy that is a phone number from the address book (ie, if I want to SMS somebody via AIM, just pick them from my address book?) *that* would be nice, since I don't really want a list of phone numbers uploaded as buddies for when I'm at a real computer.

They don't want to tarnish their good name.

They've pretty much already done that on their own. I used to use yahoo for services, google for search. Yahoo maps *used* to be the best mapping app out there, but then google outdid them. At that point in time, I still used Yahoo for movies and tv listings. They screwed those up horribly, and Google did better with their movie listings.

Yahoo was on top. They became complacent. Then in an effort to 'catch up' they alienated their user-base by releasing unusable crap.
