Here is a still from the movie showing the tablet. From (my) memory, Kubrick added the images for the tablet in post-processing. By contrast, some of the ship's display terminal props were actually translucent screens with film projectors behind them.
I have never understood why downmodding is harmful. An acquaintance once got +5 for saying, "Gosh, home values aren't that high where I live." Would it not be a favor to others to downvote such brilliant posts as that? I'm not sure why it got to +5, but it would seem proper to to 'score it on a curve like in high school."
Frontline isn't perfect, either. They tend to pad material and repeat just like other shows. If you don't have an hour of content, just show what you have and cede the rest of your time for sports or something.
I think the 'beauty to the bone' philosophy of Gnome 3 might be exactly what you are seeking. Maximal maximizing of windows means that it will effectively resemble a kiosk.
I have four mod points left, but I am unable to find a post worth modding up or down. I think slashdot is about done. I haven't figured out reddit, yet. Is there anything else worth logging onto?
I think the only reasonable expectation of seeing humans on Mars any time soon is a one-way trip. There must be husband-wife geologists of retirement age who would like to live out their days in a low-gravity marsological paradise.
Is the parent really a +4 comment? Why have a moderation system if that gets four out of five stars? Unless, of course, the above was randomly generated and represents the brilliant future of automated discourse.
I know I shouldn't tell someone with a 5-digit id to RTFA, but here I go anyway... FTFA:
Scherr left MIT in May 1965 to take a job at IBM, but 25 years later he confessed to Professor Fano in person. “He assured me that my Ph.D. would not be revoked.”
Okay, so to sum up:
Slashdot just posted a 25-year-old story.
Actually, a 22-year-old story about an incident which took place 25 years previously. Something to tell your grandkids about.
...what Zappos is. I mean, why not just call it $companyfunction $company. Would it be so much to say what this company with millions of users does/sells?
Perhaps it's mentioned above, but gumbi west refers to the fact that the stall siren turns off when the angle of attack is too high*. Perhaps the rationale is that the designers expect that at that angle of attack there must be an instrument problem and there is no sense in warning if the real situation is not clear.
At any rate, when the stick was pushed forward for a bit, the stall siren came on again.
Can Slashdot inaugurate a +6 level for comments that are even better than the parent comment? I really think the end is near. I think Slashdot is now kuro5hin--completely pointless.

...the Marilyn Monroe effect.
Great destination! The view never changes! Sun rises and sets once per day; just like home!
It's not necessary to completely bury the bad ones. I see what you mean by a limited number of points, though.

Are there any economics texts available from the Foundation? http://www.freakalytics.com/2011/07/13/mstr-microstrategy-stock-price-relative-to-ipo-and-historic-low-point/
Hurrah!

* Perhaps combined with other parameters.
...shiny metal ass!
but it only takes a strip of cloth to stop an American satellite.
Hmmm, parent post gets a +2 and a rant that seems to do nothing more than to call people mean doo-doo heads and link to the New York Times gets a +5.
