the Assemblyâ(TM)s analysis noted. âoeThey claim that if more resources must go to calculate and pay overtime, resources for bonuses, stock options and stock awards will be reduced.â
Because we'd all rather have stock options rather than money in our pockets.
We had been paying close to $1500 for three days worth of wired internet access and about half that for Wi-Fi until we finally got smart and just bought a couple Verizon broadband cards for our salesmen to take to shows. It's a case of they know you really need it, and they're the only game in town, so they charge what they want.
If D.C. wanted to retain all control over it's precious:CAT then instead of sending out the acutal Cats to people with their subscriptions, they should have sent out coupons for CueCats, and on the coupon they could have printed the EULA and required a signature stating that you agreed to the EULA and wanted them to send you your Free Cat.....
Same with the ones given out at R.Shack, they could have just said, "Read this, and Sign Here." and they would have been covered..
But as you all know, they screwed themselves by not looking into current postal Regs. and figuring out what everyone who knows anything about postal Regs. already knows... In my mailbox, I didn't order it, Hmm IT'S MINE...
They've released probably half of the 1 million to magazine subs. and the other to people at R.Shack stores, So that's 500,000 that are out there that can and will be used for whatever purposes people want to use them for....
Being electronicaly inept, I want some diagrams for hooking this thing up to a Palm Pilot so I can go into buisness against Symbol Tech. and start selling my own bar code reading Palms..... Free Scanner, Just Add Palm....
We could Mirror the Digital Convergence site on Sealand, and have their links to their Faq pointing to links for Decoder files, and the De-clawing page....
Nobody can touch Sealand... they are practicaly their own little country... The only thing they could do to touch them would be to bomb them...
There is help coming for us "Console Cheapskate"'s Sega has set up SegaNet which is supposed to be able to bring online gaming up to a decent speed for us modem players... Here's what their PR says...
*Low-latency ISP gives you a high-speed, reliable Internet connection.
*Play 3D multi-player games on a Dreamcast or PC.
*Experience performance levels never before realized in online play.
*Go head-to-head against opponents across the U.S.
*Play some of the hottest online games around.
I have yet to sign up, but it sounds well intentioned..
As for save games, mail, bookmarks etc.. that can all be stored on a memory card.
(Dreamcast already does this)
"""The games also typically need updating very frequently and thus need to be installed onto a hard drive and cannot be run from a CD."""
The Need to update game software is a computer thing, as in Release too early, then patch the hell out of it.. The only reason I could ever see the need to patch a piece of console software is for adding extra levels etc.
For the Dreamcast they (Sega) have already done this, For Sonic they released special Release Party, Halloween, and Christmas levels for the game that you could D/L onto your memory card, While not really being entirely 'NEW' levels they for example added snow and snowmen for the Christmas level etc etc...
What Sony needs to do for the PS2 is to use it's new Memory Stix instead of memory cards, and we could D/L 128mgs worth of add on levels onto the memory card and it would be portable, Take 128mgs worth of levels to a friends house and not need to lug the hard drive along....
I've heard of being able to play online against people in an arcade, but there was actually a better idea that I have no idea if it ever made it, but they were talking about Memory card ports on Arcade cabinets.. That way you could build up your player at home in your spare time and then take your player with your stats etc to the arcade and actually play against "Someone"..

As an avid/. lurker I knew in advance of my going to Radio Shack to get my:CueCat what was already brewing... I had my questions already laid out in my head..
I asked the guy behind the counter (the smarter looking of the two) if they had any cuecats' and he handed me one. Proceeded to ask me for my info and then scanned the upc.. I asked him if there was ANY way they could track me with this thing, and he assured me that there was NO way they could... and proceded to show me that the upc on another Cat was the same... and there was NO way they could track me if the upcs' were different... as if they were going to issue millions of Different UPCs' (One for each user) Yeah Right..!!
I also asked him If I now OWNED the Cat, and once again he assured me that I could do with it whatever I wished.. It was Mine.
This guy tells me he's handed out hundreds of the things at two different stores.. And I know he's spread the same bullsheit to anyone who bothers to ask about privacy concerns..
Is this what Digital Convergence has instructed the radioshack employees to say? Or was this guy just totally clueless and trying to make himself seem like a privacy expert..
Oh I'm not saying that I've never downloaded a song I liked and never bought the album..
But I think the record companys should at Minimum put up free MP3s' of their "Top 40" songs in high quality... Most of the songs on the underground MP3 sites are MTV top10 / BillBoard Top40 Etc... These are the SAME songs that we have been able to tape off of the radio (If we had the patience) for something like (guessing) 30+ years..
No one I know has ever been harrased by a record company for Taping a Top 40 tune off of the Radio.. Granted the quality of a tune ripped from the radio lacks in the sound dept. It was good enough for alot of years....
And Yes the percentage of people who will trade in the other Non-Top40 songs will probably remain about the same, but at least let the people who want to try and be honest have a chance to download a high quality top 40 song that they hear like 30 times a day for free on the radio anyway..
The thing with MP3's is that for 2 songs off of an album that they play on the radio, there are another 8 that they will never play on the radio and will never be heard Unless you either borrow or buy the album.. That's not freedom.
That's when you realise you've made a big mistake and should have just bought the single because the rest of the album sucks... That's where the free part comes in, As in free previews of the rest of the CD that no one will play on the radio, and sometimes for good reason...
I would love to do as the author stated, and create some free music.. Problem is, It would HAVE to be free, because No-One ine their right mind would pay for it.
I can see a day when there will be Time Limited MP3's where you have a day or so to "Preview" before the file will self destruct in 10...9...8 ETC....But like everything else It Will Be Hacked...
When you fill out the little form at your grocery store to get one of those neat little cards you have to carry for the rest of your life in order to get cheap groceries, you put YOUR name / Address and they wanted my drivers licence number but I wouldn't give it to them... Any way, they now know who YOU are, and when they swipe the card and YOU'VE bought a jug of Vodka and a Playboy they know that YOU are the one who bought it...... With the CueCat do you have to fill out some sort of form to get one... If you do it'll be the same thing, You Scan a UPC out of BarelyLegal and they know that you are the one who used the CueCat to check out the Upc link to a porn site.....
And is hilarious!

We have the same thing here in the U.S. it's called shareware. If you want money for your freeware, put a price tag on it.
