The problem is that by holding the isp responsible you empower whatever local DA or police chief with censorship rights. Sure in this case it was child porn which is illegal everywhere, but what about when some DA in bumfuck nowhere decides alt.binaries.pictures.erotica has obscene content and orders the isp to shut off that newsfeed. Again, an isp is a provider, like a phone service. Does the phone company get sued when I commit telephone fraud? hell no.
Is it possible microsoft just wants some embedded hardware support for their Secure Audio Path? It seems to me they should know that system won't work well with software alone. So it's possible they are going to try tying windows to their own hardware. Because of AMD, microsoft doesn't have it's previos wintel cartel so maybe their creating their own hardware controls.
I wonder if the supreme court refused to hear the connectix case because they were waiting for a DMCA case to come along? I would think by deciding not to hear the case that had just been overturned, the supreme court was showing support for the appeals court decision and supporting RE, but maybe they just wanted to wait for a bigger fish to fry (DMCA) which I'm sure they'll be reviewing within the next few years...
Is it just me or should the patent office be forced to maintain a complaint line/emal address that an joe schmoe can send prior art evidence and flames too? Maybe 5000 geeks whining can actually get a patent repealed.
Ethically? I personally think it is ethically wrong for them to bobard me with excess electrical radiation 24/7, but I can't do anything about it. Are they going to pay my medical bills when I get cancer.
Reminds me of large power lines. If you live by high capacity power lines those big ones put out a shitload of electrical interference. You can wire up an array on a fence or the side of your house that will be able to power a few light bulbs constantly for ever. But if you do the power company will notice the draw and come bust you ass. Apparently it's fine for them to bombard you with radiation all day but if you capture that radiation and use it it is illegal power theft. Fucking government and big business...
WTF? Why streaming? I just don't get streaming, I mean, delivering video/audio on the fly via packets is stupid. Even on the fattest connections a good sized network hiccup will fuck up the stream. There's nothing more annoying than having a video pause for a few seconds in the middle of it. And if I want to skip to a different part then I've gotta wait for it to rebuffer. Is it just me or is streaming shit? Who came up with the logic of streaming over a connection that's always changeing speed and has no guaranteed delivery? My suggestion would be to abolish streaming media from your site.
Yes, but the spammers get a distinct advantage from the unique url, if you click it and or load an invisible image they can track it to your actual email address. If it is not unique, they may be able to get ip address, os, browser info, etc. but can't link it to your email address as there are thousands of people hitting that non-unique url. With a unique url tied in their databases to your email, they know for sure if you viewed the email and can also link the other info gathered (ip, browser, os) to you email address. Kinda scary.
Does anyone know if there are any cdr/mp3 cd players out there that support high bitrates? Anything up to 256 bit? They seem like a good value now but all the ones I've seen only go to 128 or 160 bits and I'd rather have the quality if I have a cd full of mp3's.
So who out there is l33t enough to hack into science mag's escrow copy of the database and post it to usenet so we don't have to deal with this bullshit?
I see this all heading towards there being large collections of music that you can subscribe to, probably the big label's libraries, competing for subscriptions. ten bucks a month or whatever, and artists get payed for the popularity of their respective downloads. The labels will pay for the music so they keep popular interest. kinda bad if you don't like pop music though.
It's music for christ's sake, if you can listen to it you can copy it. They'll never develop an effective copy protection scheme, so give up already...
And the damn 3d view installer on win32 asked me to reboot, I closed the window instead, and it still rebooted. That right there made me say fuck these guys. Why the fuck should a plugin require a reboot?
Have all the sensitive data be saved by employees on network drives, that should greatly reduce physical data theft, but makes electronic data theft easier.
I wish companies or people holding the copyrights on old games would realize there could be money to be made with these old games, sell them for 25 cents or something. Or re-release them as shockwave.com has done with some arcade classics, maybe make a little advertising money...
Actually, networked games usually don't require that much bandwith at all, a modem could do, but they do require a low latency.

hope there is some good security implemented w/ this or it'll open the door for vbs style virus'.
The only problem is when you get your email address blacklisted by ORBS for being a spammer... "dude, it's encrypted"

they did like 6-7 years ago and lost...
Hasn't this already happened? When they sued microsoft for jacking their look and feel, and lost. Why do they think they can win this time?

or does some really badass stuff come out of finland?
it's for professionals...
I still have a working power pad and nes, plus two games for the power pad. Old school rulez!

Isn't ReplayTV the only one that doesn't charge a subscription fee for the listings? If they're in financial trouble how long is that going to last.
I got dibs on wax.museum!
