  1. WONDERFULL!!! on Experiences with Laser Eye Surgery? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I had LASIK done a couple of months ago as have my Mother and Father years ago with generation 1 lasers.

They were very pleased, but I was never able to get it because my astigmatism was too bad to be corrected. Recent laser improvements have greatly increased the correction ranges and I could not be happier.

I have never met someone who would not do it all over again if they had to. And as for myself, I would do it again in a hearbeat and am pushing for others to get it done that are afraid.

The only thing I stress is to NOT go to one of those cheap bargin places where docs come out of med school to practice and use old lasers. The new ones are 5th generation and have "WaveFront Technology" which improve laser accuacy.

So, if you have the funds, FREE YOURSELF!!! You will not miss your glasses/contacts I promise!

  2. Prodigy beat them all on E-mail and Snail Mail United · · Score: 1

I remember back in the early days of prodigy, (yes it still exists) they had a feature that allowed you to type in an email, and they for a nominal fee, they would print it out on quality paper, and mail it.

It may not be as advanced geographically as this concept, but it did decrease the sending time a little, and it is the same basic principle

I have the same problem everyone else does, but I have an ultra bay battery that i hoarde so if i need to unplug my computer i use that battery, otherwise, it stays half charged in my desk drawer.

as for people who say the batteries are horribly expensive, in excess of 300 dollars, what are you doing, buying an M$ made battery? you can easily find them new from stores for liess than 150 and dare i say it, you can even find new ones for 85 bucks on ebay (not auction, but ebay sale style) and less if you get a used one (though that would perpetuate the problem ;)

any way I have given my rant

and of course, I still think the main batteries suck, and there is some kind of deeper issue here

  8. the little things on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

As someone who Loves computers and has been around them all my life, they have never been a means of anything other than somethign to take my mind off from the rest of the world.

I have linux on a machine or two, but my main system has windows on it

This is because when it comes right down to it, I don't want to take the time to compile source code soley to get a simple program to work

admittedly, things are getting much better, and the closer linux comes to having a unified environment, so anyone with one of a thousand distros wants to install an app, that is attractive, friendly, and does not take silly amounts of tweaking, the closer I come to tossing out every copy of windows I have ever owned

or even better yet, have more systems that are interoperable, so if you do have to switch services, you don't have to go through the hell of having to get new hardware as well?

  17. not me, but hopefully soon on Laser Vision Surgery for Developers? · · Score: 1

I personally have not had the surgery, but both my parents have (one's vision had gotten so bad, contacts were not even an option) now, they both have 20/20 or 20/30 vision

on the 20/30 side, they are still elated, because if they have to wear glasses or contacts, they are lite and hardly noticable

but both are happy, (even though there is a bit of loss in night vision) and would do it again in a heart beat.

there are others, but the moral is that I would do it for myself, and have done all the research i need, to know that having vision without the lenses is worth the small risk involved!
