Actually ... there's a tradeoff. Yes, you save storage space, but at an increased risk to your data. If you put 10 former CDs on 1 DVD, you're more at risk if that DVD goes bad or gets destroyed, than if 1 CD went south.

Obviously, there's some sort of optimization curve here, but damned if I know where to make the tradeoff.

But really, do you expect them to say something like, "KDE ... not really the best at what it is, nor is it the most powerful, but we'd sure like you to give it a try, anyway"

Marketing 101: your product is the best. Apple got in trouble because they said their computers are the fastest, which is quite easily disputed.

Actively intruding, however, some would call unethical. Some would allow it, as long as you don't alter any data. (Makes sense to me) Live by the sword, die by the sword. Hack, or be hacked. Funny thing was, i remember one upper-level class where the staff refused to distribute any handouts (like practice exams, HW assignments, project descriptions) in anything except post script.

I've spoken with several reps at Comcast over the past year. They don't really care what servers you run. (I've been told this explicitly as well as tacitly) In fact, when I first contacted tech support, the guy had no idea what SSH, Telnet (ssh is like an encrypted telnet, right?) or even what a port was.

I've been running an ssh server for about 8 months uninterrupted, now. The general rule of thumb seems to be - If you don't cause trouble for anyone else, Comcast won't cause trouble for you. So, in that interest, I impose reasonable caps on my own throughput and connection counts, and I've had no problems at all.

I have enough trouble getting japanese & cyrillic characters to display correctly as it is (sometimes i'll get a mish-mash of squares and glyphs, or nothing at all). I have yet to see uniform treatment for internationalization in the consle (making file administration of foreigh-language encoded files completely impossible without a GUI).
