Ok, I Haven't finished reading all the comments here, but so far i don't see this mentioned..
I Remember seeing in a catalog for TigerDirect.com a USB 4M Flash Type Disk, Really small, just plugs into any usb port and is usuable.. IIRC The price was around 30$ or so for each.. each student would need only one and the cost would be low because there would be no drive to purchase. (they also offer other ones with more storage space) but this would solve the problem with disks going bad and everything.
Well, I can't really think of any besides normal usages, but if a university were to set one up that would be cool. I set up a temporary 16 Node Cluster using a CD/zip drive and NFS running for a High School Research Project (best experience with Linux yet).. I just used it for an hour or two to get times for generating images on a different number of computers (for usuability stats).. This all cost me the price of a few CD-Rs, a Zip drive, $2 linux CD's (which I had) and A LOT OF TIME!! but the experience was great.. I might put up the details on my web page once I'm done presenting the project (3wks).. It would be cool If i could have acces to one 24/7.. I would probably use it for generating images or somin.. I have no clue what the average./ user would use it for.. It still would be cool to say I have access to computer number 150 on the top 500 supercomputer list..
That Sounds Like a Totally cool Idea, because I know when I was in the States and helping my aunt and grandma with windows, it was hard enough to teach them how to use e-mail, more or less how to install a program. Another thing would be setup for the internet, we need an easy, STANDARD point-click type interface for the net, sort of like how all Win9x's are.. (No Flames) I know my aunt would be lost at a prompt for hardware or software control..
Apparently./ Took away my Ip's.. oh well.. replace your-ip with your IP address and parents-ip with your parents IP and your-subnet with the first 3 numebrs of your Ip followed by.0 =-)
As Root type: ifconfig eth0 up your-ip route add -host parents-ip eth0 route add default gw parents-ip
Quick and easy.. set's up your network card, then adds a route to you parents comp. then sets everything to go through your parents comp.
or even better as root type: ifconfig eth0 up your-ip route add -net your-subnet netmask 255.255.255.0 eth0 route add default gw parents-ip
Although I highly recommend you to use your linux box as the gateway, it is possible to use the win 95 one..

We'll just have a Slashdot vote on the best country, and we can just pack up and leave for the number-one voted. (The real life/. affect on some country's immigration services would be pretty funny.)
but what would we be giving up?? And if It's all for the good, then Let's start packing.. (what the heck.. I already was moved to Japan by the US.. what can be worse.)
And what if someone would hack the computer(s) that store all this info.. The movie "The Net" could be a reality..

Now If they do release Delphi, how will this affect open source Stuff, I think that if a lot of people start programming in Delphi without releasing the source, Linux will turn out like WinBlows(tm), with all the programmers making there own apps cause they don't like one feature and can't change it, or don't like the fact that they have to pay after like 30 days.. I know that having more then one thing gives a choice, but having 200+ to chose from is really hard.. Maybe they can sell the RAD..and maybe for like $5-50, sell a complier. I know this sounds weird, but most people will buy it cause of the RAD and not the compiler, but this would be a great thing for Linux, The open source, and RAD.
I think it was referring to KDE, GNOME and the others Desktops out there.. If they do decided to support a few, I don't want to be charged a lot of money for each.. say a $25 would be enough for extra suport.. eg. you buy the KDE version, and then pay the $25 for the GNOME version, and your apps work seamesly.. then again If they all came in one that would be great
Maybe I can get a deal with the Delphi 3 I have for Win9x.. And Finnally a programming tool for Linux where you don't have to hand code all the GUI Stuff.. =-)

Hi, I'm lucky enough not to be attending "public school" in the states.. I currently go to a DODDS school.. and when I was in the states for 7-9th grade school wasn't all that good, in fact I hated school. Kids used to pick on me, make fun of me, call me names, etc, just because I was a little smarter then they were, I was (and still am) a little on the heavy side, I brought thick books to school and read them, and I didn't try to be "Mr. Popular" or All Star or the such. I used to get so mad, I would come home and just lash out at my family when they made me a little angry. When I finaly told an administrator about some of the stuff, he called in one of the students and I got labeled as a "Tattle Tale." When my parents tried to do something about that anger, I thought about committing suicide, but I didn't because I realized what I had going for me (I knew alot of VB and stuff). I'm was glad that I moved out of that District. Over here it is not as bad but there have been times that people have said something. either about my/. hat or my Linux T-shirt or just the fact that I don't do some of the other stuff like drinking and drugs. I'm proud to be a GEEK, but I'm not a nerd.
Now if these kids were really Geeks do you think that they would have done this just because they were teased?? Is killing and commiting suicide when you are a geek (by the/. def not the media's) and have all that you know going for you later in life really posssible?? or is it that they were not geeks and had some serious problems (not playing Video games either, although that and TV might have contributed to it)??
I don't know what it would be like to be in the states right now with all that is going on. It's sorta like the Witch Hunts in the Puritan's Time, except their hunting people that are smart and a little different then the main stream crowd. I don't know what kinda effect this is going to have on me in my later life, but right now all I see is that all these kids whose goal is to be popular or pretty/handsome are goin to be flipping burgers at McDonalds or sweeping floors while I'm off making 40k+ a year programming or designing something electronic. I think this fact is what has brought me this far in life.

I think that it is a bad idea if the software to upgrade it did so with a few CPU instructions, instead they should have a boot disk that people can download that would upgrade it, (eg. the boot disk looks at the compiled kernel and since it is "official" it'll update itself. I think that it would be a good idea because the upgrade prices would drop (if they existed due to the fact that software would upgrade it) and like I have seen In other posts, once you get to a certian point in speed and hardware, just make a new chip. It would be like Intel adding the MMX to a chip but they could do that with a software upgrade, and then like Intel realeasing P3's that could be a new, faster chip. I also think that the native emulaters would be cool especially if you could run all different types of programs under one platform (eg. a mac program, x86, etc).
