Maybe they want the freedom to change apps...

I know for myself I don't like MY data locked into YOUR app. When I tire of using an app or it doesn't do what I want, I should be able to get to MY data and use another app to do what I want. With alot of apps, once I use them, I am locked in because there is know way to get access to MY data except through THEIR app.
I can see that even being in my early 40s that I would have a hell of a time getting out of the damned thing and on to my feet after about 30 mins of sitting in it. It would be even harder to convice my body to get into it a 2nd time!
Don't people need to have their legs bend once in a while?
That's it, pick on the non-technical. I guess you really wanted him to tell you the number of joules they were storing. That way, 15,000,000 readers would think that the article was about a famous author!
Darn near home.... I consider Reading home. I'm stuck in Texas for a while waiting out the heat. One day I'll make it back to yankee land. Until then I'll have to make do with the cowtown meetups (which I cannot make this month).
I to use Perforce at work. It's great! The only area that it falls down compared to CVS is it's ability to handle code generated from outside sources. It can be done but CVS just does it better.
The act of using client specs and branch specs over the modules file make Perforce considerably more robust and helps in the hope of being able to build older versions of a product as it evolves.
Now if we could only merge the good points of CVS, Perforce and Bitkeeper into one opensource version control system we could rule the world!
What effect will having 100 million of these vehicles dumping gallons of water into the atmosphere everyday have on the weather? Sure, I heard it will just rain out. But will it? Or will we have a massive rise in thunderstorms, tornados and hurricanes not to mention the massive flooding.
I can't believe it will have no effect at all. If it's like most of our "miracle cures" it will come with a cost of 10 curses of un intentional side effects.
So who whill be first?

Does the GPL Mandate that I MUST redistribute code

I read the GPL and I don't see any provision mandating that if I use the code or modify the code that I MUST redistribute it.
Only provisions that I see state that if I DO distribute it, I must mark it clearly that I modified it and my changes must be GPL.
Being an old SuSE user, I will have to assume that 8.0 will offer the usual high SuSE standards for stability that the previous versions have as well as the games.
I have rarely been disappointed with a SuSE distribution.
Good reason not to run Windows no? I found after 10 days of flakey service (which I was promised 20 days of credit for), My charter runs fine. I don't use thier browser, nor thier mail so MSN who?
As for speed, as far as I can tell, if they choked it, they didn't choke it much.
The moral of this story? Move to Texas, everything is bigger in Texas!
I've always been amazed at the number of Linux users who bash Windows daily and yet still keep thier Windows boxes up to date and running full.
If you want to change the stats, bite the bullet and switch to Linux all the way. Yes, t's scarey, but you will find that you will probably only miss a game or two. I can't believe that anyone in thier right mind uses MS Office for home stuff. I'm mean what the hell, they can't write mom without frilly fonts?
I always figured it came down to C or C++ Qt/KDE is C++ where as Gnome supports C. The last I saw, some while back, Gnome had C++ wrappers but they were a long ways off from being documented as well as Qt.
So, if you want to write in C, use Gnome, if you want C++ the choice is yours.
I have a friend whose linux machine was broken into on Christmas eve. In the end his login and ps programs were replaced and all of the logs were deleted. A small process was running in the background hooked to an irc server and another @home machine. You could only see this process looking through the/proc directory. The ps command was hacked. It's other clue was the two network connections.
Maybe this is related.
Good point! We wonder why our kids kill each other, get pregant by the time thier 13 etc, while we let kids watch whatever THEY want to see. Both movies, look like trash that most adults do better when looking for entertainment, not to mention taking their kids to go see the garbage!
Remember folks, just like computers, if you feed people garbage you get garbage out!
Who needs the PDA, Cell phone etc when there is slashdot???

Where does it say I MUST redistribute my changes?

I always figured it was because it had a lame monochrome display with a shoddy 16 levels of gray scale while the rest of the world had color!
Now I find out that it's because of its shoddy OS and shoddy programming... Gosh... I guess even us Linux zealots can be wrong!

Personally I like the C++ route with Qt.
