Every event in time effects all future events. Yes, if the creation of a company 30 years ago that effected the economy and computer industry (for good or ill) as much as Microsoft has had never occurred, then yes, history would have transpired differently and Google would almost certainly not exist.
There is not a doubt in my mind, however, that some other company would have arisen that would have done pretty much the same thing that google does now. It's a niche that would need to be filled.
It isn't really the DMCA that's doing it. If the DMCA never existed, you would still be allowed to unlock the phone. This is something that someone had to decide that the DMCA didn't cover.
Is it common knowledge in the USA just how much the government / mainstream media warps people's view of the world through carefully constructed propaganda?
Honestly? I have no idea. I know that I know that the government and media warp everything, and my friends are aware of it too. But I have no idea how much the average person is aware of it.
Ok, ok. is a bad idea. I'm an honest person, so my first instinct before I have a chance to think about things is that other people will be honest too.
They should put in some kind of tag to indicate that search engines and other parsing scripts shouldn't pick up on the tag's contents.
The whole point of a semantic tag is that it is machine parsable. A script that is interpreting the page will know what parts of the page is the article, which parts are the navigation, which parts are the advertisements, and so on.

;)
Congratulations. You're starting to understand.
Give me a moment while I do my happy dance of Microsoft humiliation.

Put a password on the bios and put a lock on the computer case. Most computer cases I've seen have a place on the back where you can put a padlock.
Of course, then when he is at his friend's house, he'll be looking at internet porn AND websites that show how to pick locks.

Why haven't they been allowed to do this previously?

Love the country, hate the government.
Is this to be a universal constant?

Is it common knowledge in China how much the government restricts freedom? Or is it something that barely anyone inside the country is aware of?
Do they think that forcing someone to use a different browser is going to get them to click on the ads?
I use Firefox and I don't use an ad blocker.
I ignore ads the old fashioned way. By not looking at them.

Actually, they need to put in an <ad> tag.
But the odds of being picked up by a passing space ship in that time are two to the power of 2079460347 to one against.
And also assuming that the jury is given the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
The judge might decide to not allow the jury to know how long the clip was.
Apparently they open sourced the client, but not the server.
How about a gold bikini?
I have never played NOLF, but it looked interesting. I've always wanted to check it out.
My favorite female video game protagonist? Jade from 'Beyond Good and Evil'.
That game desperately needs a sequel.
Can't people now set up their own SL servers with their own rules?
You know what I mean. I mean not being a celebrity or anything like that, just ordinary citizens.
People can and have gotten arrested for peacefully protesting against Bush anywhere near the Capitol or White House.
Try protesting against Bush in public these days and see how far you get.
