Sadly, I do honestly wonder what additional changes will be a part of the DVD release. So very many movies come out as 'special' dvd editions differing somewhat, sometimes greatly, from the versions we all saw in the theater. After what Lucas did with the special editions a few years back I am certainly even less enthused about this upcoming DVD release.
If we can't get the Han shoots first version hopefully we'll get at least the Geedo shoots first version an nothing else changed.
I have to be honest in that I am very glad that we have do not yet have a 'flying car.' If flying cars were to come to pass I'd bet that home based phalanx anti aircraft systems would be a booming market. Or to follow the sci-fi vein, home 'defense shields.'
Can you imagine the same people you commute with each day having to deal with 3d-navigation, higher velocities, and random inputs like wind gusts? It'd be one hell of a fireworks show. Insurance companies would collapse overnight.
I know I've spent the last year finding I really love the sound of analog gear to a lot of digital gear. I've moved from Digitech 2101's and asundry sorts of pedals to Marshall JCM800s and EL34 Dual Monoblocs. I absolutely love the sound I get out of this type of analog gear and cranked valves. I'm not sure I'd want to start playing in a situation where my sound passed through an ADC right in the guitar. That seems to limit some sounds and tone related options quite a bit.
Tho, I'm sure in time as ADCs and DACs get better and sample rates get higher I won't be able to tell the difference. And in fairness newer gear like the Prophecy guitar system are quite impressive.
but for the time being, get your stinking digital off my guitar, you damn dirty engineer!;-)
I now know my goal in life, this screen must one day sit upon my desk. I could finally be able to see the facial expressions of those that I frag.. um.. I mean I could finally be able to increase my uh productivity.
Am I wrong, or is that not one of the signs of the apocalypse? In truth though, how far is that from MS's current development of complete 'smart house' systems? Will we one day have to worry about our living spaces blue screening?
Now hopefully individuals from Microsoft, and several other large organizations, will read that article and finally understand the critical need for solid standards. It's a shame that there really does not exist a coherent standards body in the software world that has the breadth and respect held by NIST. I often wonder how much advancement is being held back or hampered by the constant pissing wars between companies regarding standards. Possibly I'm looking at it from the wrong perspective, but to me it seems the current systems aren't working in our best interests.
I have to agree with part of this comment. For the X-Box system to be able to run Dreamcast games the Dreamcast's hardware would need to be 'emulated' at some level. Either the Dreamcast's hardware would be integrated into a small IC or set of ICs, similar to the Apple II emulating MegaII chip in the Apple IIgs, or in software provided either in rom, unlikely, or on a DVD, i.e. boot with the DVD to load the Dreamcast emulator then insert the game's GD-Rom. Plus there are the issues of making sure that the X-Box's DVD drive could read the Dreamcast's GD-Roms.
Although any of this is technically possible, I don't feel that it's probable. Sega has only recently decided to discontinue the Dreamcast hardware thus I don't think they would have been considering this X-Box angle previously, though it is possible. At this late in the game it really doesn't seem realistic that MS would take on the task of integrating another machine. They are, I'm sure, busy enough testing the X-Box to ensure it's own native functionality.
However, it's always possible that at some point after the X-Box's release a Dreamcast emulator may be available. Maybe.

Hmm, this seems 'interesting' at best.

Such wonderous inventions...

Just thoughts.

My two cents,
